Looking for new photography pieces for your walls? Or new photo books for your collection? CPF is now pleased to present a collection of prints and. books from previous festivals by some of our highlighted artists. The selection of works includes signed books by renowned photographer Martin Parr and silk prints by Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes – both of whom exhibited at the festival this year.
Contemporary still lifes that uncover the lifestyle of modern family life
Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes, who exhibited at this year’s festival with the project “Family Table” is presented with several pieces. Pedinotti Haynes is a lens-based artist living in upstate New York. The artworks presented are concerned with the physical and metaphysical detritus of the everyday and its entanglement with expectation, role-playing, and fallible histories and myths about domestic life. Her photographs aim to loosen long held notions about labor, intimacy, memory, and motherly instinct from within both the domestic tableau, and the cultural and commercial conditioning that hold it in place.

One of this year’s Futures Nordic Talents, Andreas Hopfgarten, who was exhibited at the VÆKST venue, is also represented at the sale with numerous works. Hopfgarten is a German visual artist and photographer based in Reykjavik, Iceland. His research-based practice explores the intersection of personal and collective histories. Through intuitive storytelling, his project “Where there is a will…” incorporates film, sculpture, and installation techniques, creating multi-layered narratives. Hopfgarten’s project delves into the cyclical nature of history, where past conflicts resurface in new contexts.
Dive into the silent fear of snow and the archives of the collapsed GDR
From previous festivals, you can find original works by Tirdad Aghakhani, who is a California based visual artist. His passion for art was fostered byhis mother throughout his upbringing. About the project “Snow, silence, night” he explains, “The silence of the snowy nights was terrifying to me. Too much silence turned into a snowy nightmare for me. The square frame that is used in this collection reflects the sense of fear of being in prison, a feeling that I experienced as a child because of snowy nights.” The photos for the project were taken digitally, and the wet plate technique was used to edit the photos to convey a scary dreamlike atmosphere to the viewers to better communicate with the photos and the story behind them. The project was part of CPF’s Censured Exhibition in 2021.
Adrian Fish, a Toronto born photo-based artist, was also part of the Censured Exhibition in 2017. His project “The Stasi Archives”, centered around photographs from the archive collected by Stasi officials. This also includes meeting rooms, offices and boardrooms preserved after the collapse of the GDR.
Signed photo books by Martin Parr
Among the books, you will find a selection of signed books from Martin Parr, one of the best known documentary photographers of his generation. With over 100 books of his own published, and another 30 edited by Parr, his photographic legacy is already established.
Documentary and contemporary photo books
You will also find books from one of this year’s solo artists Jansen van Staden, who is primarily a street photographer reflecting on personal imaginaries and microhistories. Influenced by his background in skateboarding and documenting his local community, he uses photography as a conceptual entry point to investigate social belonging and disconnect.
From previous festivals, you will be able to find books from Mafalda Rakoš, who was part of our selectees in 2024 with her project “All in this together”. In the project she explored the nuanced experience of the human condition during the turbulent period of Covid-19. You will also find books by Jessica Backhouse, who was part of our Framing Vision exhibition in 2018. With a background in photography and visual communication, she is regarded as one of the most distinguished voices of contemporary photography in Germany today.

Each year, Copenhagen Photo Festival brings together artists, audiences and professionals in a shared celebration of photography. In 2026, we once again take over the Royal Danish Theatre and surrounding areas in central Copenhagen with exhibitions, talks and events – and your project could be one of the highlights of the festival.
THEME 2026: Forestillinger | Scenarios
With this theme, we invite artists to explore the power of imagination. How can photography give form to what we haven’t seen yet – or to what we fear, long for, or dream of?
‘Forestillinger’ is a Danish word that speaks to both visualisation and theatrical performance – to the images we conjure in our minds, and the dramas we stage. Whether poetic or political, documentary or experimental, we welcome projects that challenge what we know, distort what we see, or open new perspectives on reality.

If selected, you will be offered a solo exhibition produced in close collaboration with the CPF team. The exhibition will be part of the official main programme and presented in the Royal Danish Theatre or in curated urban spaces in central Copenhagen.
You will receive a fee, production support, promotional coverage, and access to a broad international network of peers, professionals and audiences.

Martin Parr in Copenhagen – experience him in the city and at the theatre
When Copenhagen Photo Festival opens on 12 June, it’s with a vibrant and jam-packed programme – and one name shines particularly bright: British Magnum photographer Martin Parr. As the festival’s main highlight, Parr will be present both in the city and at the festival centre at The Royal Danish Theatre – and there are several ways to experience him and his work during the opening days.
Even though the opening talk with Martin Parr is already sold out, there are still plenty of opportunities to get close to the photographer and his sharp and witty take on modern life. We are also proud to announce that the conversation will be moderated by renowned curator Ingrid Fischer Jonge. She curated Parr’s last major exhibition in Denmark in 2003 at The Royal Library while heading the National Museum of Photography and knows his work inside out, a true scoop for this year’s programme.
Exhibition at The Royal Danish Theatre
At the main festival venue, Parr’s exhibition Tell Tale Mirrors unfolds across the theatre’s bars, balcony foyer and beautiful arched hallways – extending all the way onto the balcony overlooking Kongens Nytorv. His colourful visual universe is staged in dialogue with the theatre’s grand and historic setting. In a specially created book lounge, visitors can explore Parr’s iconic photo books and watch Louisiana Channel’s documentary about the photographer.

Throughout the festival, you can also experience Parr’s distinctive photographs in the heart of Copenhagen, where his sharp and colour-saturated imagery enters into dialogue with the urban environment. At Kongens Nytorv, visitors can explore a glimpse of works from his series A Small World, while along the inner harbour five key locations – Nyhavn, Broens Gadekøkken, BLOX, Kayak Bar and Gammel Strand – feature images from his iconic series Life’s a Beach. Together, these open-air installations invite passers-by to see the familiar with fresh eyes.

Når Copenhagen Photo Festival åbner den 12. juni, er det med et tætpakket og sprudlende program, og ét navn stråler særligt klart: den britiske Magnum-fotograf Martin Parr. Som festivalens hovednavn vil Parr være synlig både i byens rum og i festivalens centrum på Det Kongelige Teater – og der er flere måder at opleve ham og hans arbejde på i løbet af åbningsdagene.
Selvom åbningssamtalen med Martin Parr er udsolgt, er der heldigvis andre muligheder for at komme tæt på fotografen og hans skarpe blik på det moderne liv. Og vi er glade for at kunne løfte sløret for, at det er den anerkendte kurator Ingrid Fischer Jonge, der modererer samtalen – et scoop i sig selv for årets program. Hun har indgående kendskab til Parrs arbejde og stod bag hans seneste store udstilling i Danmark på Det Kongelige Bibliotek i 2003, dengang hun var leder af Det Nationale Fotomuseum.

På festivalens hovedvenue folder Parrs udstilling Tell Tale Mirrors sig ud i barlokaler, balkonfoyer og teatrets smukke buegange – helt ud på balkonen med udsigt over Kongens Nytorv. Her iscenesættes hans farverige univers i samspil med stedets historiske og spektakulære rammer. I en særlig boglounge kan du dykke ned i hans ikoniske fotobøger og se Louisiana Channels dokumentar om fotografen.

Copenhagen Photo Festival releases ambitious 2025 programme
From 12 to 22 June, Copenhagen Photo Festival invites audiences to experience its most spectacular programme to date – headlined by the world-renowned British Magnum photographer Martin Parr. For the first time, the festival will open the doors to its new central venue the Royal Danish Theatre and presents a packed programme of exhibitions and events in collaboration with over 30 festival partners across Copenhagen and beyond.
This year, audiences are welcomed inside the spectacular foyer of the Danish national stage, where exhibitions and events will unfold in playful dialogue with the theatre’s gilded interiors. The festival has challenged traditional exhibition formats to reflect the unique character of its new settings.
– We set out to create a festival that both brings together the strongest voices in photography and opens up new spaces for curiosity, reflection and play. Presenting Martin Parr at the Royal Danish Theatre while simultaneously creating space for emerging talents and experimentation at Refshaleøen is something we’re incredibly proud of – it’s the culmination of years of work behind the scenes. Even as we move into the grand halls of the national theatre, we continue our playful and curious approach to exhibition-making, rooted in the spirit of each venue – whether it’s the theatre or the exhibition park at Beddingen, says Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen, Director of Copenhagen Photo Festival.
Martin Parr opens the festival at The Royal Theatre and in public space
Martin Parr opens the festival with the exhibition Tell Tale Mirrors, a generous selection of both iconic and rarely shown works from the series Life's a Beach, Small World, and Everybody Dance Now. In true Parr spirit, the festival is also creating a bespoke photo book lounge in the foyer, inspired by the artist’s deep fascination with printed matter and beach culture. Visitors may even be lucky enough to meet Parr himself during the Grand Opening and the festival’s opening days.
Outdoor teasers from the exhibition will also be on view in the square in front of the theatre and along the harbourfront, showcasing a taste of Parr’s humorous and vivid visual world in the heart of the city.

Into the Light – solo shows in the stairwells and corridors
This year’s theme, Into the Light, plays out in four powerful solo exhibitions hidden throughout the stairwells and passageways of the Royal Danish Theatre. In Family Table, American artist Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes transforms detritus and domestic objects into poetic photo-tableaux that question family roles and motherhood. In Microlight, South African photographer Jansen Van Staden explores inherited trauma from his father’s military service and tragic death. German photojournalist Gil Bartz’ Fragments of Climate Change reflects on the emotional and political complexity of the climate crisis. And in Anatomy of an Oyster, Spanish artist Rita Puig-Serra Costa uses photography as a tool to break the silence around sexual abuse within families.

Fremkaldt – new conversations on art, photography and life
For the first time, Copenhagen Photo Festival presents Fremkaldt, a new talk series in the Balcony Foyer of the Royal Danish Theatre. Here, three of Denmark’s most acclaimed photographers – Marie Hald, Søren Solkær and Petra Kleis – are paired with prominent voices from other creative fields: visual artist Firoozeh Bazrafkan, musician and painter Kasper Eistrup, and performance artist and poet Noah Umur Kanber. Across three evenings, the pairs explore photography, creativity and the artist’s role in our time in a format that encourages personal and informal dialogue. All tickets include access to the festival's main exhibitions.
Dive into the Fremkaldt program
Photo Print Market & Photobook Market at the Royal Theatre
On Friday 13 June, the theatre foyer is transformed into a buzzing photo print market, where photographers and artists present and sell photographic prints and works. During the weekend of 14–15 June, the focus shifts to the popular photobook market, where passionate Danish and international publishers, bookshops and artists present new photobooks and printed matter – a rare chance for collectors and the curious minded to find something unique.
VÆKST – a free art oasis for emerging voices
At Refshaleøen, the festival opens the doors to its new venue VÆKST – a vibrant platform for emerging Nordic photographers and interdisciplinary creatives. The venue presents exhibitions, performances, installations and concerts that fuse photography with sound, movement and visual art.
The programme includes contributions from leading Nordic photo schools, four selected FUTURES talents and six newly introduced VÆKST Creatives who bring photography into bold and experimental directions. Set in the festival’s exhibition park at Beddingen, VÆKST reimagines an old shipyard as a playful, sensual and free art oasis – open to all throughout the festival.
CPF X – a nationwide celebration of photography
The festival extends further than ever before through the CPF X Partner Programme, which includes over 30 exhibitions at venues in Copenhagen, North Zealand and beyond – all the way to Skagen and across the Øresund to Landskrona, Sweden. The programme features museums, galleries, pop-up spaces and performances that illuminate the many facets of contemporary photography.
Visitors can also experience the wide range of exhibitions through three specially curated CPF X Gallery Crawls, which offer guided tours of festival partner exhibitions in Copenhagen’s city centre, inner boroughs and Vesterbro – an inspiring way to explore the breadth of today’s Danish photography and art scene.

When the Copenhagen Photo Festival takes place from 12–22 June 2025, it will be in collaboration with a strong line-up of local experience partners: Strömma, Donkey Republic, GoBoat, Copenhagen E-Bike Tours, and Kayak Bar. The partnerships aim to make it easier and greener to explore the festival’s many exhibitions across the city – especially this year’s highlight: the iconic works of renowned Magnum photographer Martin Parr.
See Martin Parr’s humorous photography in the heart of Copenhagen
Throughout the festival period, the public can experience Parr’s striking and satirical works exhibited in key urban locations around the city, including Kongens Nytorv, Nyhavn, Broens Gadekøkken, BLOX, Kayak Bar, and Gammel Strand – and this year, from both land and water perspectives.
A new perspective: See Martin Parr from the harbour
As part of a new partnership with Strömma, festival guests can hop on one of Strömma’s canal tours and enjoy a unique artistic experience from the water, seeing Parr’s large-scale images integrated into the cityscape. In addition, Strömma’s hop-on hop-off buses connect key festival venues – from the Royal Danish Theatre to the emerging VÆKST programme at Refshaleøen – and guests will enjoy a discount on both boat and bus tickets throughout the festival period.
Bike through the festival with Donkey Republic
For the first time, Copenhagen Photo Festival is partnering with Donkey Republic, the sustainable local bike-share service. In addition to a discount on bike rentals during the festival, the two partners are launching a brand-new initiative: the Gallery Bike Crawl – a guided bike tour visiting up to four different exhibition venues over the course of a few hours. The tour offers a unique opportunity to experience world-class photography while enjoying the urban atmosphere and getting some fresh air and exercise.
Experience the exhibition in the inner harbour – at your own pace in an electric boat
You can also enjoy Parr’s iconic beach photos along Copenhagen’s inner harbour at your own pace, aboard a rented boat with your closest friends. During the festival, GoBoat offers guests a 10% discount on their classic self-sail GoBoat tours – where you captain the boat yourself. You can also get 20% off GoBoat’s new Harbor Tours, with space for up to 9 people per boat.
“We want to open up the water to everyone – including for viewing world-renowned photography from the water. That’s not something you experience every day, so we’re proud to be one of Copenhagen Photo Festival’s new experience partners. Since 2014, we’ve only operated electric boats and we offer free fishing nets for picking up trash from the harbour, so the idea of green urban experiences is part of GoBoat’s DNA,” says Eric Ziengs, CMO at GoBoat, about the partnership with the festival.
Shared commitment to sustainability
Also Strömma and Donkey Republic place sustainability at the core of their operations. Strömma is actively working to implement green transformation across its services, including renewable fuels and social inclusion. Ud over en rabat på cykelleje i festivalperioden lancerer de to brands et helt nyt initiativ "Gallery Bike Crawl" – en guidet cykeltur, hvor deltagerne over et par timer besøger op mod fire forskellige udstillingssteder i København. Turen giver mulighed for at opleve fotografi i verdensklasse, samtidig med at man nyder byens atmosfære og får motion.
Oplev udstillingen i inderhavnen i elbåde i dit eget tempo
Du kan også nyde Parrs strandfotos langs inderhavnen i roligt tempo ombord på din egen lejede båd sammen med dine nærmeste venner. Under festivalen tilbyder GoBoat festivalgæster 10% rabat på deres klassiske GoBoat ture, hvor du selv styrer båden. Du får desuden 20 % rabat på GoBoats nye Harbor Tours med max 9 personer i hver båd. “Vi vil åbne vandet for alle – også for at se et verdensnavn udstillet fra vandsiden. Det sker ikke så ofte, så vi er glade for at være en af Copenhagen Photo Festivals nye oplevelsespartnere. Vi har siden 2014 udelukkende sejlet med elbåde og vi låner gratis fiskenet ud til at fiske efter skrald i havnen, så ideen om grønne oplevelser i byen en del af GoBoats DNA,” udtaler Eric Ziengs CMO i GoBoat om samarbejdet med festivalen.
Fælles fokus på bæredygtighed
Også Strömma og Donkey Republic har bæredygtighed som en central del af deres forretningsstrategi. Strömma arbejder målrettet med at implementere grøn omstilling i deres forretning, herunder brugen af vedvarende brændstoffer og social inklusion. Donkey Republic tilbyder en nem og let tilgængelig måde at bevæge sig rundt og udforske byen. De bidrager til et grønnere byliv og tilbyder en sund, fleksibel og bekymringsfri måde at komme frem på.
Copenhagen Photo Festival samarbejder desuden med Copenhagen E-Bike Tours, der tilbyder guidede ture på elcykler og udlejning med rabat til festivalgæster, samt Kayak Bar, som udstiller et af Parr’s ikoniske værker på deres bygning mod vandet. Her kan festivalgæster samtidig nyde en kølende drink med rabat mod fremvisning af festivalbilletten.
Med partnerskaberne med Strömma, Donkey Republic, GoBoat, Copenhagen E-Bike Tours og Kayak Bar, håber Copenhagen Photo Festival at gøre kunsten mere tilgængelig, fremme fokus på bæredygtige kulturoplevelser og samtidig at kunne tilbyde festivalgæster helt nye og inspirerende måder at opleve festivalen og København på.

Come celebrate and explore amazing photo book at this year’s photo book market and the adjacent Photo Scene in our new Festival Center at the Royal Danish Theatre on the first weekend of the festival – 14th and 15th of June. Over two days we look forward to presenting a host of passionate photo book publishers, vintage photo book dealers and photo book artist – all brining their distinct perspectives and takes on the medium of the photo book.
In photography, there is a long-standing tradition of presenting work not only in glass and frame, but also in book form. In this format, photographic narratives gain a unique tactile quality – as if the stories come to life right in your hands.
Engaging conversations about photo books and photography
This market brings together photography enthusiasts, book lovers, and curious minds to experience and purchase photo books from passionate Danish publishers.
We are pleased to present a series of dialogue-based formats involving publishers, artists, bookshop owners, and representatives from photography schools. These conversations will be part of our PHOTO SCENE and aim to explore their diverse expertise and critically engage with the photo book as a unique and evolving form of artistic expression.

Announcement: The Solo Artists for the 2025 edition of Copenhagen Photo Festival
Copenhagen Photo Festival is thrilled to finally present the four Solo Artists of 2025. The Solo artist projects have been selected from nearly 1000 projects through our annual open call. Each project will be presented with a solo exhibition at our festival center from 12 June 2025 bringing this year's overarching theme ‘Fremkaldelser / Into the Light’ into play at the festival center.
The four compelling projects have been selected because of a profound engagement with their topic and an enriching perspective on the theme. Each artist brings new and very personal tones to the meaning of ‘Fremkaldelser / Into the Light’. The projects explore a diverse array of themes from engaging deeply and personally with the everyday moments of family life and intergenerational conflicts inflicted by war, to the aftermath of abuse and the complexity of disseminating the climate crises.
The photographers amplify unheard voices and highlight stories that might otherwise remain hidden. Their work highlights societal blind spots, challenges the status quo, and invites viewers to pause and critically reflect.
We look forward to presenting these four intriguing projects as solo exhibitiosn at the spectacular new festival center at the Royal Danish Theater giving the artist a unique chance to unfold the multilayered narratives behind the projects.

Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes - Family Table (2024)
American photographer Elisabeth Pedinotti Haynes’ project Family Table turns the overlooked remnants of daily life into captivating visual stories. Using food scraps, utensils, and cut-out photographs, she constructs playful yet thought-provoking still lifes that explore memory, domesticity, and the hidden rituals of family life. Her work challenges conventional ideas of motherhood and domestic labour, transforming mundane moments into imaginative spaces where time bends and personal narratives come to light. Through her photographs, Pedinotti Haynes invites us to pause, reflect, and see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Gil Bartz - Fragments of Climate Change (2023)
German photojournalist Gil Bartz offers a kaleidoscopic view of the climate crisis, capturing fragments of a larger narrative on environmental and societal change in Germany. In Fragments of Climate Change, German photojournalist Gil Bartz presents a kaleidoscopic portrait of the climate crisis as it unfolds in contemporary Germany. Through his cinematic documentary photographs, Bartz captures fragments of a complex reality – from wildfires and self-sufficient energy towns to climate activists awaiting trial. His work doesn’t point to one culprit but instead highlights the intricate, interconnected challenges that define our time. With a background in cinematography, Bartz crafts visually compelling tableaus that invite the viewer to pause, reflect, and consider their own role in the story of climate change.
Jansen van Staden - Microlight (2023)
South African photographer Jansen van Staden’s project Microlight is a deeply personal exploration of the generational trauma caused by war. The project began when Van Staden discovered a letter written by his late father, detailing acts of violence he committed during South Africa's 'Border War'. Through photography, Van Staden navigates the emotional landscape of his family's history, uncovering the lasting psychological effects of war and the inherited scars it leaves behind. Microlight invites us to confront the complexities of memory, identity, and the silent legacies of conflict – bringing these often-hidden narratives into the light.
Rita Puig-Serra Costa - Anatomy of an Oyster (2023)
In Anatomy of an Oyster, Spanish artist Rita Puig-Serra Costa uses photography to transform personal trauma into artistic resistance, confronting personal and collective silence surrounding abuse. Through the symbolism of the creation of a pearl – where an oyster transforms an intrusive element into something layered and luminous – Puig-Serra Costa explores the emotional complexities of her own trauma. Her deeply personal project, rooted in a conversation with her late mother, unravels the layers of shame and guilt often hidden within families. By merging archival images with intimate visual storytelling, she transforms her personal reckoning into an act of defiance, fostering dialogue about a topic too often left unspoken.

Ikonisk venue på Kongens Nytorv bliver nyt festival centrum
Copenhagen Photo Festival træder i år ind på den helt store scene, når festivalen for første gang indtager Det Kongelige Teaters Gamle Scene midt på Kongens Nytorv. Teatrets foyer vil danne en spektakulær ramme om festivalens centrum på årets festival i juni og kommer blandt andet til at huse den første større soloudstilling med den verdensberømte Magnum-fotograf Martin Parr i Danmark siden 2003.
Når årets fotofestival i København åbner 12. juni, bliver det i helt nye, centrale omgivelser midt i København. Med et omfattende udstillings- og aktivitetsprogram indenfor på Det Kongelige Teater og udenfor på Kongens Nytorv sætter Copenhagen Photo Festival i år spot på fotografiet i nogle helt utraditionelle udstillingsrammer, der i sig selv rummer 150 års kulturhistorie.
Udstillinger med verdensberømt fotograf centralt i byen
“Vi går ind i en ny tid for festivalen i år, og vi er utrolig stolte og glade over muligheden for at vise fotografi i et af Københavns mest imponerende historiske kulturhuse og ikke mindst i selskab med en af de mest betydningsfulde og banebrydende fotografer i verden gennem de seneste 50 år, Martin Parr,” siger festivaldirektør Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.
“Martin Parr er en enormt generøs fotograf, der har inspireret generationer af fotografer med sit fotografi. En ting er hans imponerende fotografiske værk, en anden er hans lidenskab for fotobøger og arbejdet med at styrke kulturen for fotografi gennem Martin Parr Foundation. Det er en stor ære og privilegium at få mulighed for at dele Parrs arbejde med offentligheden i København og i Danmark i større skala for første gang i 20 år.”
Flere får glæde af Gamle Scene
Rasmus Øland, der er chef for kommercielle aktiviteter på teatret siger: “Vi er meget glade for at huse et event som Copenhagen Photo Festival, da vi ønsker at samarbejde med byens øvrige kulturaktører. Det nye samarbejde betyder, at flere gæster får glæde af Gamle Scenes historiske rammer, og at de kan opleve dem på en helt ny måde med udstillinger i foyer og korridorer fordelt på flere etager.”
Nyt centrum på Kongens Nytorv og ny hub for talentlaget på Refshaleøen
På festivalen vil man opleve udvalgte projekter af Martin Parr både i festivalens centrum på Gamle Scene såvel som centralt i byrummet. Udstillingerne præsenterer værker fra nogle af Martin Parrs mest berømte serier. Med udstillingerne af Martin Parr og det bemærkelsesværdige skifte til Det Kongelige Teater markerer festivalen også en ny retning.
“Vi er sat i verden for at skabe synlighed omkring fotografisk kunst – fra dokumentarfotos til kunstfotografi. Ved at rykke ind centralt i byen, samtidig med at vi bevarer vores hidtidige udstillingspark på Refshaleøen til udstillinger med fokus på vækstlaget, er det vores ambition at nå ud til langt flere med festivalens udstillinger og aktivitetsprogram. I vores nye centrum på Gamle Scene såvel som hos de mange partnere på museer og gallerier, som også er en del af festivalens udstillingsprogram.” fortæller Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen om den nye retning.
“Det altid været en del af vores mission, at vi kan vise fotografi i utraditionelle rammer, som tager kunsten ud af sine vante rammer og gør den mere tilgængelig. Dén mission får nu et nyt niveau med dette skifte,” siger hun.
Festivalen fortsætter med at skabe udstillinger og aktiviteter i udstillingsparken på Refshaleøen, men kan nu give endnu bedre rammer til at vækstlaget kan få luft under vingerne. Derfor vil man i år opleve at udstillingsparken omdøbes til VÆKST. Her vil der blive plads til, at upcoming fotografer kan eksperimentere og vise deres værker for et bredere publikum.
Talks, guidede ture og fotomarked
Udover soloudstillingen med Martin Parr kommer festivalens nye centrum også til at byde på soloudstillinger med fire internationale fotografer fundet blandt de knap 1000 ansøgere på festivalens traditionsrige open call i efteråret 2024. Derudover vil man kunne opleve fotobogmarked, talk scene, guidede ture og meget andet.
Løftet af det nye festivalformat ind til hjertet af København er foreløbig muliggjort gennem generøs støtte af Københavns Kommune, Det Obelske Familiefond, Aage og Johanne Louis-Hansens Fond samt Augustinus Fonden.
Billetsalget til festivalen samt aktivitets- og talkprogrammet er åbnet og vil løbende blive opdateret med nye aktiviteter henover foråret.

Iconic venue in the city center is new festival center
Copenhagen Photo Festival is entering the big stage this year, when the festival for the first time takes over the Royal Danish Theatre's Old Stage in the middle of The city at Kongens Nytorv. The theatre's foyer will form a spectacular setting for the festival's center at this year's festival in June and the first major solo exhibition by world-renowned Magnum photographer Martin Parr in Denmark since 2003.
The festival takes place in entirely new surroundings in the middle of Copenhagen when it opens on 12 June. With an extensive exhibition and activity program inside the Royal Theatre and outside on Kongens Nytorv (The Kings Square), this year's Copenhagen Photo Festival will highlight photography in an unconventional exhibition setting that in itself embraces 150 years of cultural history.
Exhibitions with world-renowned photographer in the center of the city
“We are entering a new era for the festival this year, and we are incredibly proud of and happy about the possibility to show photography in one of the most impressive historic cultural centers, and especially in the company of one of the most significant and groundbreaking photographers in the world over the past 50 years, Martin Parr.” Says festival director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.
“Martin Parr is an enormously generous photographer who has inspired generations of photographers. One thing is his impressive works, another is his passion for photo books and his dedication to strengthen the culture of photography through Martin Parr Foundation. It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to share Parr's work in Copenhagen and in Denmark on a larger scale with the public for the first time in 20 years.”
More people will enjoy The Royal Danish Theater's Old Stage
Rasmus Øland, head of commercial activities at the theatre says: “We are very happy to host an event like Copenhagen Photo Festival, as we want to collaborate with the city's other cultural entrepeneurs. The new collaboration means that more guests will enjoy Gamle Scene's (The Old Stage's) historical setting, and that they can experience it in a completely new way with exhibitions in the foyers and corridors spread over several floors.”
Welcoming the general public to Kongens Nytorv
The festival will feature selected projects by Martin Parr both in the festival centre at The Old Stage (Gamle Scene) as well as in the heart of the city space. Works from some of Martin Parr's most famous series will be presented. With the exhibitions by Martin Parr and the remarkable move to the Royal Danish Theatre, it marks a brand new direction for the festival.
"We are here to create visibility around photographic art - from documentary photos to fine art photography. By moving into the center of the city, while maintaining our previous exhibition park on Refshaleøen for continuously cultivating and nurturing the growth of emerging photography, it is our ambition to reach much more people through the festival's exhibitions and various activity programs happening in our new center at The Old Stage as well as with the many partners at museums and galleries, which are also part of the festival's exhibition program." says Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen about the new direction.
“It has always been part of our mission to be able to show photography in unconventional settings that take art out of its usual framework and make it more accessible. That mission now gets a new level with this upgrade,” she says.
The festival continues to create exhibitions and activities in the exhibition park on Refshaleøen, but can now provide an even better framework for emerging artists and talents to grow and unfold their art. The exhibition park will be renamed VÆKST to honour the new initiative. At VÆKST upcoming photographers and artists will be able to experiment, work interdisciplinarily and showcase their works to a wider audience.
Talks, guided tours and photo market
In addition to the highlight exhibition with Martin Parr, the festival's new center will also offer solo exhibitions with four international photographers selected among the almost 1000 applicants through the festival's traditional open call in the fall of 2024. Additionally, it is possible to experience a photobook market, talks on stage, guided tours and much more.
The transformation of the new festival format and its relocation to the heart of the city has been made possible through generous support from the Municipality of Copenhagen, the Obel Family Foundation, the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, and the Augustinus Foundation.
Ticket sales for the festival, the activities and the talk programs is now open. Information will be continuously posted with updates of new activities throughout the spring.
