Copenhagen Photo Festival, more than an event, it’s an ever growing community supporting Nordic Talents. To expand it, CPF is part of the European photographic network and platform, FUTURES Photography that supports and boosts the careers of photographic talents. But what is it, what does it mean and why is it relevant for a festival in Copenhagen to be part of?

A European platform for photographic talents

Since 2017 FUTURES Photography has existed to develop and empower photo artists across Europe. Through more than 20 member institutions and the support of the EU culture programme Creative Europe, FUTURES Platform is now an important network thriving for the enhancement of relationships between emerging photographic talents and the industry. CPF has been part of the platform since 2021, creating the first bridge towards our Nordic region.

Among the members are the following prominent institutions:

Bienal Fotografia do Porto · CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia · Centre Photographique Rouen Normandie · Centre de la Photographie Genève · Der Greif · FOMU – Fotomuseum · FOTODOK · Fotofestiwal Lodz · Fotogalleriet · Fotograf Magazine · ISSP · Organ Vida · PHotoESPAÑA · Photo Elysée · Photo Romania Festival · PhotoIreland ·  Photoforum Pasquart · Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center · Triennial of Photography Hamburg · Void

Shedding light on emerging Nordic photography talents

Through our partnership with FUTURES Photography, Copenhagen Photo Festival aims to shed light on emerging lens-based artists and photographers from the Nordics. Each year the curatorial expertise of the festival’s programme committee appoints five talents who represent the scope of current young fine art and documentary photography within the Nordic region.

How do we select the talents?

In the selection process the programme committee strives for inclusiveness, educational variation, thematic and genre-wise diversity, originality, and relevance. Besides those aspects, the group of talents must also represent a playful approach to lens-based technology and/or a curiosity towards considering photography within the frames of spatial realms.

What do we look for in a talent?

Copenhagen Photo Festival looks for talents at a state in their career where FUTURES’ international connections, professional feedback and the networking can boost or push the boundaries of the talents’ individual position. If you are an emerging talent, you can apply for the selection via an open call at the end of each year.

FUTURES Photography have year round events, exhibitions, meet ups and other opportunities for the selected talents of the platforms. You can keep posted on the latest updates via their own platforms or explore our FUTURES Photography Room.
