Dear partners and contributors
Copenhagen Photo Festival 2018 wishes you all a good summer with great joy and pride. With a total visitor number of 54,925 for our exhibitions and activities, there are many to thank!
Sydvenskan mentioned this year’s festival as “anything but a mediocre festival” and concluded the review: “It is the artists who change society, not politicians. The photo festival at Østerbro leads the way.”
The program in 2018 presented 56 exhibits in collaboration with 45 venues in Copenhagen and North Zealand, in Odense and Århus, in Malmo and Stockholm, in addition to the Photo City itself.
More than 250 Danish and foreign photographers and photo-based artists contributed to the festival program, and we received over 500 applications from 55 countries alone to the festival’s Photo City. We are deeply grateful for the great international interest. Thank you!

The festival was initiated with an opening of Photo City, where cultural and leisure mayor Niko Grünfeld emphasized the broad public support of the festival and its significance for the city’s art and cultural life. Festival Director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen emphasized the ‘threat of photography and image culture’ against the written language and emphasized the co-responsibility of the festival for how we sustain this image culture. 2018 was also the year in which the three new main categories Framing Identity, Framing Society and Framing Vision were launched, and they will in future be three key pillars of the programming.
Save the dates for the 10 years anniversary in June 6-16 2019.

A big thank you to all the photographers and artists for their engagement in the festival and to all galleries, museums and cultural institutions that have participated in this year’s festival. A huge thank you also should be the festival’s sponsors and fund support and to all the many other collaborators who have assisted the festival. Thanks to the approx. 80 volunteers in Photo City – for their commitment and time! The machine could not run around without! A thank you also to Premier Is for ice cream to the summery guests, to Bornholm’s Mosteri for delicious drinks for the opening, to the band I Am Jonas for an atmospheric open air concert to the opening and not least to Skousen Østerbro to make sure everything was served to perfect temperature in the fridge freezer.
Copenhagen Photo Festival 2018 is supported by the City of Copenhagen – Culture and Leisure Administration and the Visual Arts Committee, the Augustine Foundation, Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, the State Art Foundation and the Østerbro Local Committee. See you June 6-16 2019
