Simian præsenterer en udstilling med den franske kunstner Cyprien Gaillard (f. 1980) som er et af de mest markante navne på den internationale samtidskunstscene. Hans værker har været vist på bl.a. Palais de Tokyo i Paris, Museum Tinguely i Basel og Tank i Shanghai. Udstillingen er den første solo præsentation af kunstneren i Danmark.
I en praksis der undersøger krydsfeltet mellem tid, erosion og forfald, beretter Cyprien Gaillards værker på poetisk vis om civilisationers fremkomst og fald. Hans værker kredser om de spor vi efterlader os – i arkitektur, landskaber og kroppe – og hvordan disse vidner om menneskets destruktive magt og forgængelighed.
Udstillingen på Simian indeholder bl.a. en omfattende serie polaroidfotos, der fungerer som et visuelt atlas, hvor billeder af ruiner, monumenter, parker, højhuse og landskaber fra hele verden stilles op mod hinanden uden geografisk eller kulturel skelnen. Dette skaber formelle ligheder på tværs af tid og sted, og forbinder f.eks. Spiral Jetty i Utah med europæiske templer og modernistiske bygninger.
Udover udstillingen med Cyprien Gaillard, kan publikum i samme periode også opleve en udstilling med den danske billedkunstner Lea Porsager.
Simian presents an exhibition with the French artist Cyprien Gaillard (b. 1980), one of the most prominent names on the international contemporary art scene. His works have been shown at, among others, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Museum Tinguely in Basel and Tank in Shanghai. The exhibition is the artist’s first solo presentation in Denmark.
In a practice that examines the intersection between time, erosion and decay, Cyprien Gaillard’s works poetically tell the story of the rise and fall of civilizations. His works revolve around the traces we leave behind – in architecture, landscapes and bodies – and how these bear witness to man’s destructive power and transience.
The exhibition at Simian includes, among other things, an extensive series of polaroid photos that function as a visual atlas, where images of ruins, monuments, parks, high-rise buildings and landscapes from all over the world are juxtaposed against each other without geographical or cultural distinction. This creates formal similarities across time and place, and connects, for example, Spiral Jetty in Utah with European temples and modernist buildings.
In addition to the exhibition with Cyprien Gaillard, the public can also experience an exhibition with the Danish artist Lea Porsager during the same period.

Simian er en uafhængig kunsthal i Ørestad, grundlagt og drevet af kunstnere som en non-profit organisation, med det formål at støtte og præsentere eksperimenterende udstillingsprojekter af både spirende og etablerede kunstnere med dansk og international baggrund. Gennem et omfattende udstillings- og eventprogram, er det Simians hensigt at engagere sig i kritiske kunstneriske og sociale diskurser, for at skabe diskussion, refleksion og handling.

Simian is an independent art gallery in Ørestad, founded and run by artists as a non-profit organization, with the purpose of supporting and presenting experimental exhibition projects by both emerging and established artists with Danish and international backgrounds. Through an extensive exhibition and event program, Simian aims to engage in critical artistic and social discourses, to create discussion, reflection and action.
