As for truth and history, it is the study of dreams that has enabled psychologists to investigate the unconscious side of psychic events appearing in the arena of consciousness."

In this workshop by Salih Basheer, participants will move beyond the act of photography in documentary photography by visualize their dreams through drawing, and collage work of their archive images.
Salih Basheer is a Sudanese photographer based between Nairobi, Kenya and Tampere, Finland - who joined Magnum Photos as a nominee in 2024.
Basheer received the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund student grant for his personal project 22 Days in Between. He was also awarded the Everyday Projects Grant and in January 2023.
Basheer published 22 Days in Between, the first ever photo-book by a Sudanese photographer. The book was awarded the 2023, Les Rencontres d’Arles Photo-Text Book Award.
Requirement: Participants should bring a selection of printed photographs/ self-portraits from their archive and a selection of some written dreams, new one's or from the past if they remember (Any kind of a dream is fine). The Festival will provide blank notebook, pencil and a set of pencil colours, cutter or scissor, a piece of hardboard (any kind).

The act of collage-making is a form of reconstruction: memories are shattered and reassembled into new forms, offering a way for trauma to become more than an inherited burden—it becomes something processed, transformed.
In this collage workshop CPF invites attendees to create new visual stories through the art of collage making with Hungarian avant-garde artist Kitti Szabo who herself works with collages to process generational memories and trauma in her creative practice.
Over the course of two hours you will get an introduction to collage making with found photography and photographic prints and together with the artist and the other participants get feedback throughout the process.
The goal of the workshop is to bring awareness to and transform emotional burdens and negative memories (“curses”) through artistic expression, moving toward light, healing, and inner freedom
About Kitti Szabo
As an avant-garde and experimental artist Kitti Szabo has found a unique mode of expression through collage. In my work, paper, photographs, cutouts, and found objects take on new meaning, forming intricate narratives. Her artistic journey was initially inspired by Dadaist and French avant-garde art; where experimentation and playfulness play a key role, yet are enriched with deeper philosophical layers.

Participants will have the opportunity to undergo 1-3 reviews over a span of two hours, with each review session set at 20 minutes. These sessions require no prior preparation from the reviewers but preparation from the students and emerging artists, allowing for a spontaneous and authentic exchange of ideas.
During the reviews, attendees can anticipate receiving constructive criticism aimed at refining their artistic practice and improving portfolio presentation. Moreover, engaging discussions will explore attendees' artistic vision, creative processes, and career aspirations, fostering a deeper understanding of their work. Furthermore, the Portfolio Review Sessions serve as a platform for mentorship, professional networking, and guidance, leveraging the expertise and experience of the reviewers to provide invaluable support to emerging talents.

This workshop is part of the networking program for exhibiting photo schools and emerging artists exhibiting at the festival and is only open for an invited audience.
This is a hands-on workshop where the participants learn to sew their own books. From the simple yet effective pamphlet to the elegant Japanese stab binding and the practical Singer stitch, you’ll be introduced to a range of traditional book-sewing techniques. For inspiration, we begin with a short introduction to various photo books that demonstrate different binding styles.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn about materials and tools, and be encouraged to experiment with colored papers, threads, and page-folding methods to better understand the possibilities of handmaking books. The atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for beginners.
You’ll leave with three different types of handmade notebooks and a deeper understanding of how to sew your own book. The skills you learn can be used to create your own zines, artist books, or photo books.
The workshop is taught by Danish photographer and publisher Julia Mejnertsen, who studied bookbinding in Japan.
Requirement: Participants will be provided with all necessary materials to create their hand-made books.

This hands-on workshop by our Solo Artist Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes—an American photographer—works on the topic of Memory-Wish-Incantation.
Participants will create a “Still life/Portrait Hybrid” that encapsulates a memory, a current state of being and a future possibility. They will choose a person with whom they have shared domestic spaces, meals, and life experience to depict through the use of printed photographs, food and food scraps, and other domestic items, in a still life photograph.
Requirement: The participants should bring photographs of and/or representing the subject they have chosen to explore that they don’t mind cutting up.

This workshop is part of the networking program for exhibiting photo schools and emerging artists exhibiting at the festival and is only open for an invited audience.
This hands-on workshop by our Solo Artist Gil Bartz—a German photojournalist—is about using flash in documentary photography in public spaces. They’ll explore how to find compelling subjects and how to turn their ideas into strong visual stories. Should they simply take the photo, or ask for permission first? They'll discuss what works better and in which situations it’s necessary to ask in order to work without conflict or stress.
By the end of the workshop, participants should have a clearer understanding of the different approaches to working in a documentary style and gain insight into what method best suits them—allowing them to photograph confidently and without hesitation.
Requirement: Participants should bring a (digital) camera and a flash—or a flash mounted on a tripod—depending on how they prefer to work.

This workshop is part of the networking program for exhibiting photo schools and emerging artists exhibiting at the festival and is only open for an invited audience.
In this workshop by our Solo Artist—the Spanish artist Rita Puig-Serra Costa—we will review the projects the participants are working on one by one, with the aim of providing personalized feedback for each case. The idea is to offer directions, ideas and both formal and content-related references that can help continue developing the participants work.
The participants will be asked to send their projects in advance so that it can be analyzed thoroughly anda valuable and specific feedback will be prepared. Additionally, sharing the feedback with the rest of the participants will enrich the process and foster a very useful collective learning experience. The goal is for the participants to finish the workshop with greater clarity, resolved doubts, and new directions that inspire them to keep moving forward.
Requirement: Before the workshop, participants should send: 1. A brief description of the project. 2. Images of the work. If unsure about the selection, preparing two folders: one with the images they're confident about and another with those they're unsure of. 3. The current state of the project (what stage it's in and which aspects are more or less defined). 4. Specific questions or issues they'd like to address during the workshop.

Using only sunlight to expose your images and water to develop them, you’ll create unique prints in rich shades of blue and violet. With cyanotype, light becomes your creative partner, no camera or darkroom needed. The possibilities for creative expressions are endless!
During the workshop, you will arrange leaves, plants, feathers, paper clips, negatives, etc. directly onto paper, coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. As the sunlight exposes the paper, the silhouette effect is created, capturing intricate details.

Join our 3-hour Polaroid Transfer workshop at Lille Mølle and explore the art of creating beautiful Polaroid transfer prints!
We will start with a short introduction to Polaroid cameras, the Polaroid Lab, and film, followed by a live demonstration of the transfer technique. Then it’s your turn to try the techniques, experiment with the process, and get creative exploring the techniques possibilities.
We will carefully separate the Polaroid photographs, lifting the ultra-thin, image-bearing emulsion and transferring it onto a piece of quality paper, a small wall tile, or another surface of your choice. The technique is both delicate and addictive, calling for patience, concentration and creativity.
No prior experience is needed—just the courage to experiment, learn, and be inspired!
