Copenhagen Photo Festival inviterer studerende, spirende kunstnere og fotografer og andre, der har brug for ny inspiration og input til den kreative udvikling, til et portfolio review-arrangement på festivalens første dag.

Arrangementet er en unik mulighed for fotografer til at modtage indsigtsfuld feedback fra en bred vifte af eksperter fra den danske og internationale fotografiscene ved årets Portfolio Reviews.

I løbet af dine 3 sessioner kan du forvente værdifuld kritik af dit arbejde fra anerkendte fagfolk såsom gallerister, kunstnere, fotojournalister, kuratorer og andre.

Copenhagen Photo Festival invites students, budding artists and photographers and others who need new inspiration and input for their creative development to a portfolio review event on the first day of the festival.

The event is a unique opportunity for photographers to receive insightful feedback from a wide range of experts from the Danish and international photography scene at this year’s Portfolio Reviews.

During your 3 sessions, you can expect valuable criticism of your work from recognized professionals such as gallerists, artists, photojournalists, curators and others.

Til den åbne udstilling 2026 ‘Forestil dig …?’ inviterede festivalen alle med passion for fotografiet til at interagere med årets tema ‘Forestillinger | Scenarios’ og få mulighed for at blive udstillet på Det Kongelige Teater under festivalen.

Mere end 200 fotografer deltog og indsendte deres take på temaet. Resultatet er blevet en udstilling med sårbare, morsomme og tankevækkende øjeblikke. I alt 50 værker bliver udvalgt til en fysisk udstilling, der kan opleves som en særlig installation i teatrets foyer. Navnene afsløres umiddelbart inden åbningen.

Alle deltagende fotografer vil dog kunne opleve deres indsendte billeder digitalt på teatret i hele perioden – se alle deltagere nedenfor.

Fotograferne bag de 50 vinderbilleder får udover æren også gratis adgang til teatret og deltager desuden i en konkurrence om gavekort til CEWE på henholdsvis 4.000 kr., 2.000 kr. og 1.000 kr. til de tre bedste fotos, som kåres under festivalen.

Der er præmieoverrækkelse på Photo Scene i Balkonfoyeren Søndag den 14. juni kl. 16.

For the 2026 open exhibition ‘Imagine …?’, the festival invited everyone with a passion for photography to interact with this year’s theme ‘Forestillinger | Scenarios’ and have the opportunity to be exhibited at the Royal Danish Theatre during the festival.

More than 200 participated and submitted their take on the theme. The results have become an exhibition of vulnerable, funny and thought-provoking moments. A total of 50 works have been selected for a physical exhibition, which can be experienced as a special installation in the theatre’s foyer. However, all participating photographers will be able to experience their submitted images as part of a digital screening at the theatre throughout the period – see all participants below.

In addition to the honor, the photographers behind the 50 winning images receive free admission to the theatre and participate in a competition for gift cards to CEWE of DKK 4,000, DKK 2,000 and DKK 1,000 respectively for the three best photos, which will be chosen during the festival.

There will be a prize presentation at the Photo Scene in the Balcony Foyer on Sunday, June 14th at 4 pm.

To dage med artist talks, paneldebatter og screenings, der dykker ned i fotografiets mange perspektiver, lige fra fotobøger og kunstneriske processer til fotografiets evne til at dokumentere og ændre verden omkring os.

Copenhagen Photo Festival præsenterer i 2026 et to-dages liveprogram lørdag den 13. og søndag den 14. juni med kunstnersamtaler, bogpræsentationer og samtaler om fotografi.

Photo Scene finder sted i den centrale Balkonfoyer i 2026 – en unik historisk ramme for uformelle møder med de kunstnere og tænkere, der former nutidens fotografiske landskab. Programmet er udformet i samarbejde med årets fotoforlag, udstillende kunstnere og partnere.

Uanset om du er til dristig visuel historiefortælling, politiske refleksioner eller den poetiske og personlige side af fotografi, inviterer Photo Scene dig til at lytte med, stille spørgsmål og komme tættere på ideerne bag billederne.

Programmet er gratis at deltage i for festivalgæster med almindelig adgangsbillet – enkelte talks er med pladreservering, da vi forventer et større publikum. Book her

Two days of artist talks, panel discussions and screenings that delve into the many perspectives of photography, from photo books and artistic processes to photography’s ability to document and change the world around us.

In 2026, Copenhagen Photo Festival presents a two-day live program on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June with artist talks, book presentations and conversations about photography.

Photo Scene will take place in the central Balkonfoyer in 2026 – a unique historical setting for informal meetings with the artists and thinkers who shape today’s photographic landscape. The program has been designed in collaboration with this year’s photo publishers, exhibiting artists and partners.

Whether you are into bold visual storytelling, political reflections or the poetic and personal side of photography, Photo Scene invites you to listen, ask questions and get closer to the ideas behind the images.

The program is free to attend for festival guests with a valid entry ticket. – some talks require a seat reservation, as we expect a larger audience. Book here

Artist talk with gallery director Cian Burke from Galleri Format in Malmö and artist Eva-Teréz Gölin, who will discuss works from Geometry of Time and Colour, exploring photography through digital processes, online imagery, and light-sensitive materials in constant transformation.

Solo artist Maja Daniels & Max Fergusson — Gertrud

Artist talk with solo artist Maja Daniels and Granta editor, Max Ferguson discussing Daniels’ work Gertrud — exhibited at this year’s festival — which reimagines a 17th-century Swedish witch trial through photography as mythmaking, weaving together archival and contemporary imagery to draw parallels between historical cycles of fear and our present moment.

Solo Artist Roger Ballen — On The Ballenesque

Artist talk with solo artist Roger Ballen, reflecting on five decades of image-making and the evolution of his distinctive visual language — from documentary photography to the staged, psychologically charged interiors of Spirits and Spaces, on show at this year’s festival.

Atoosa Farahmand & Oscar Hagberg — Not a Typical Persian Girl

Artists Atoosa Farahmand and Oscar Hagberg in conversations with gallerist André Hansen on their exhibition Not a Typical Persian Girl, on view at Ex Nihilo during Copenhagen Photo Festival, and their accompanying 250-page book. Through their work — spanning artistic research, archival material, and personal interviews — they trace feminist movements and women’s resistance in Iran from the 1850s to today, giving voice to women and non-binary individuals in Iran and the diaspora.

Artist and photographer Salih Basheer presents his book The Return and introduces its dark backdrop: the devastation of the war in Sudan. Basheer’s focus on the humanitarian impact and experiences of loss and displacement. Mere end 200 fotografer har i år bidraget til årets åbne udstilling, der i år er sponsoreret af CEWE. Blandt de 200 er i alt 50 fotografier blevet udvalgt til at blive vist som del af en fysisk udstilling og nu skal vinderne af 1., 2. og 3. prisen kåret blandt de udvalgte fotografier. Vi glæder os til at se dig til GRAND OPENING 2026, hvor vi sammen skyder årets festival i gang i de spektakulære omgivelser på Det Kongelige Teater og fejrer begyndelsen på en festival med store udstillingsoplevelser og et levende aktivitetsprogram.

Sammen med udstillende kunstnere, kuratorer, fremtrædende internationale gæster og repræsentanter fra vores partnerinstitutioner fejrer vi fotografiets evne til at skabe verdener og nye muligheder gennem billeder og fortællinger – iscenesat eller ej. Og til at forestille sig en bedre verden, der går af nye stier. Endnu en grund til at mødes og fejre fotografiet sammen!

Til åbningen kan du opleve den allerførste udstilling med den amerikanske kunstner og Magnum-fotograf Carolyn Drake samt soloudstillinger af de fire solokunstnere Helge Skodvin, Maja Daniels, Rhiannon Adam og Roger Ballen, der alle giver deres perspektiv på årets tema ’Forestillinger | Scenarier’. Derudover åbner vi den åbne udstilling ‘Forestil dig …?’ i samarbejde med CEWE Med deltagelse af mere end 200 indsendte bidrag, hvor 50 vises i en gruppe installation.

We look forward to seeing you at GRAND OPENING 2026, where we will launch this year’s festival together in the spectacular surroundings of the Royal Theatre and celebrate the beginning of a festival with great exhibition experiences and a vibrant activity program.

Together with exhibiting artists, curators, prominent international guests and representatives from our partner institutions, we will celebrate photography’s ability to create worlds and new possibilities through images and stories – staged or not. And to imagine a better world that follows new paths. Another reason to meet and celebrate photography together!

At the opening, you can experience the very first exhibition with the American artist and Magnum photographer Carolyn Drake, as well as solo exhibitions by the four solo artists Helge Skodvin, Maja Daniels, Rhiannon Adam and Roger Ballen, all of whom will give their perspective on this year’s theme ‘Forestillinger | Scenarios’. In addition, we are opening the open exhibition ‘Imagine if …?’ in collaboration with CEWE with the participation of more than 200 submitted contributions, of which 50 are displayed in a group installation.

Udstillingen tager sit udgangspunkt i Ida Ellinors undersøgelse af det, der ligger under det synlige. Med en vedvarende nysgerrighed mod jorden bevæger Ida Ellinor sig langsomt ind i dens lag. Hun inviterer beskuren til at forholde sig til eksistentielle spørgsmål som: Hvad vil det sige at være jordnær? At finde ro i skiftet mellem lys og mørke? Prospekt
I A Room Full of Love udforsker Mette Hartung Kirkegaard fotografi som en måde at forbinde sig med sine omgivelser på og udvider mediet gennem installation, skulptur og alternativt maleri. Udstillingen sætter fokus på det at fotografere, herunder en live performance ved åbningen, hvor publikum kan følge hendes blik i realtid. Værkerne reflekterer forholdet mellem motiv, billede og rum og fremhæver temaer som empati, nærvær og intimitet.

Fotografisk Center
The Earth Under Our Feet samler tre kunstnere, der udforsker det danske landskab som et rum formet af menneskelig aktivitet, kultur og tid. Gennem forskellige fotografiske tilgange præsenterer udstillingen naturen som et levende arkiv og reflekterer over forholdet mellem menneske og miljø.

Kvægtorvet
Turen slutter i Søren Solkærs Stages udstilling på Kvægtorvet, hvor kunstneren afholder artist talk og viser rundt i udstillingen. Søren Solkærs fotografier viser kunstnere ved Roskilde Festival i intime backstage-øjeblikke. Projektet viser den menneskelige side af performance med fokus på sårbarhed og rummet mellem det private og det offentlige.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS

Woderland Art Space
The exhibition takes its starting point in Ida Ellinor’s exploration of what lies beneath the surface. With a persistent curiosity about the earth, Ida Ellinor slowly delves into its layers. She invites visitors to reflect on existential questions such as: What does it mean to be down-to-earth? To find peace in the transition between light and darkness? How do we create resonance without seeking to control ourselves and others?

Prospekt
In A Room Full of Love, Mette Hartung Kirkegaard explores photography as a way of connecting with her surroundings, extending the medium through installation, sculpture and alternative painting. The exhibition focuses on the act of photographing itself, including a live performance during the opening where visitors can follow her gaze in real time. Her works reflect the relationship between subject, image and space, highlighting themes of empathy, presence and intimacy.

Fotografisk Center
The Earth Under Our Feet brings together three artists exploring the Danish landscape as a space shaped by human activity, culture, and time. Through varied photographic approaches, the exhibition presents nature as a living archive, reflecting on the evolving relationship between humans and the environment.

Kvægtorvet
The tour ends at Søren Solkær’s Stages exhibition at Kvægtorvet, where the artist will hold an artist talk and show the exhibition. Søren Solkær’s photographs show artists at Roskilde Festival in intimate backstage moments. The project shows the human side of performance with a focus on vulnerability and the space between the private and the public.

Davis Gallery
Ásgeir Pétursson præsenterer Icescapes, en fotografisk udforskning af Grønlands landskaber formet af is, tid og forandring. Værkerne fremhæver den skrøbelige balance mellem natur og menneskelig påvirkning og afspejler både skønhed og miljømæssigt tab i Arktis.

Det Grønlandske Hus
Nuuk Noir af Minik Bidstrup og Mie Laugesen kombinerer fotografi og poesi i et nuanceret portræt af Nuuk. Gennem kontrasterende perspektiver undersøger udstillingen forholdet mellem Grønland og Danmark og balancerer mørke, drømmende stemninger med politisk refleksion og modstandskraft.

Banja Rathnov Kunsthandel & Galleri
ATELIER / MUSEUM af Thorgej Steen Hansen er en installation fordelt over tre rum, der kombinerer fotografi, objekter og arkiver. Ved at kontrastere kunstnerens atelier med et museum i Athen undersøger udstillingen mødet mellem personlig skabelse og kulturhistorie.

Kunstforeningen G. Strand
Denne udstilling kredser om Katharina Sieverdings eksperimenterende film Life–Death (1969), som udforsker temaer som identitet, transformation og kroppen gennem uscriptede, kontrastfyldte billeder. Præsenteret som en dobbeltprojektion fremhæver den hendes performative brug af kameraet og vedvarende fokus på selvfremstilling.

Davis Gallery
Ásgeir Pétursson presents Icescapes, a photographic exploration of Greenland’s landscapes shaped by ice, time and transformation. The works highlight the fragile balance between nature and human impact, reflecting both beauty and environmental loss in the Arctic.

Det Grønlandske Hus
Nuuk Noir by Minik Bidstrup and Mie Laugesen combines photography and poetry to create a nuanced portrait of Nuuk. Through contrasting perspectives, the exhibition explores the relationship between Greenland and Denmark, balancing dark, dreamlike moods with political reflection and resilience.

Banja Rathnov Kunsthandel & Galleri
ATELIER / MUSEUM by Thorgej Steen Hansen is an installation across three rooms, combining photography, objects and archives. By contrasting the artist’s studio with a museum in Athens, the exhibition explores the meeting between personal creation and cultural history.

Kunstforeningen Gl. Strand
This exhibition centers on Katharina Sieverding’s experimental film Life–Death (1969), exploring themes of identity, transformation and the body through unscripted, contrasting imagery. Presented as a double projection, it highlights her performative use of the camera and lasting focus on self-representation.

Det Kgl. Bib
The Dream and the Furious Laughter samler over 70 værker af Jytte Rex og spænder over seks årtiers kunstnerisk praksis. På tværs af fotografi, film, bøger og skulptur udforsker hendes arbejde sanselighed, forandring og det indre liv gennem lagdelte, poetiske udtryk. Med rødder i den feministiske avantgarde fremhæver udstillingen hendes eksperimenterende tilgang og vedvarende indflydelse på den danske kunstscene.

Københavns Museum
København i Lys & Skygge samler Jullie Rønnows sort-hvide fotografier og Julie Boserups farverige collager i et portræt af København på tværs af tid. Udstillingen reflekterer over byliv, erindring og byens forandring gennem tilbagevendende motiver som baggårde og havnen.

The Royal Library (Det Kgl. Bib)
The Dream and the Furious Laughter brings together over 70 works by Jytte Rex, spanning six decades of artistic practice. Moving across photography, film, books and sculpture, her work explores sensuality, transformation and the inner life through layered, poetic expressions. Rooted in feminist avant-garde traditions, the exhibition highlights her experimental approach and lasting influence on the Danish art scene.

Museum of Copenhagen
Copenhagen in Black & White brings together Jullie Rønnow’s black-and-white photos and Julie Boserup’s colorful collages to portray Copenhagen across time. The exhibition reflects on urban life, memory and the city’s transformation through recurring motifs like backyards and the harbor.

Strandgade 6
Christine Bechameil præsenterer en serie analoge fotografier og video, der udforsker hjemmet som både et velkendt rum og et rum i forandring. Gennem miniature-scenografier, projektioner og refleksioner skaber installationen et sanseligt miljø i bevægelse, hvor grænsen mellem inde og ude opløses. I videoen 16 Million Minutes inviterer gentagelser og subtile ændringer i lys og lyd publikum til at reflektere over tid, perception og hverdagens oversete detaljer.

Christianshavns Beboerhus
Denne deltagerbaserede udstilling af Hannah Miller, Lasse Møller Jensen, Rita Blue Biza, Sofie Lund og Sofie Gyrd-Hansen bruger et overdådigt kagebord, inspireret af Wayne Thiebaud, som udgangspunkt for at reflektere over global ulighed og vores forhold til fjerne kriser. Efterhånden som kagerne deles og spises, bliver de dokumenteret og omdannet til fotografiske værker, der gradvist fylder rummet. Det, der begynder som en fælles oplevelse, udvikler sig til en nutidig vanitas om overflod, ansvar og billedskabelse.

VÆKST
Copenhagen Photo Festivals knudepunkt for nye kunstnere og fotografer, VÆKST, præsenterer et væld af talenter på Refshaleøen i år – fra de fire udvalgte FUTURES Nordic Talents til studerende fra fire skandinaviske fotoskoler og ikke mindst værker af vores seks udvalgte VÆKST Creatives, der interagerer med fotografi fra et tværfagligt perspektiv.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS

Strandgade 6
Christine Bechameil presents a series of analogue photographs and video exploring the home as both a familiar space and one in transformation. Through miniature scenographies, projections, and reflections, the installation creates a shifting, sensory environment where boundaries between inside and outside dissolve. In the video 16 Million Minutes, repetition and subtle changes in light and sound invite viewers to reflect on time, perception, and the unnoticed details of everyday life.

Christianshavns Beboerhus
This participatory exhibition by Hannah Miller, Lasse Møller Jensen, Rita Blue Biza, Sofie Lund and Sofie Gyrd-Hansen uses an abundant cake table, inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, as a starting point to reflect on global inequality and our relationship to distant crises. As the cakes are shared and consumed, they are documented and transformed into photographic works, gradually filling the space. What begins as a collective experience evolves into a contemporary vanitas on excess, responsibility, and image-making.

VÆKST
Copenhagen Photo Festival’s hub for emerging artists and photographers VÆKST presents and abundance of talent at Refshaleøen this year – from the four selected FUTURES Nordic Talents to the graduating students from four Scandinavian photo schools and not least the work by our six selected VÆKST Creatives that interact with photography from a interdisicplinary perspective.

Kurateret af Jo Verwohlt forbinder udstillingen det kosmiske med det hverdagslige og inviterer publikum til at genopdage en følelse af undren i deres nære omgivelser.

Ex Nihilo
Not A Typical Persian Girl undersøger, hvordan ideologi og politik former forestillinger om kvindelighed i Iran. Gennem forskellige visuelle udtryk skildrer Atoosa Farahmand og Oscar Hagberg kvinder, der udfordrer normer og insisterer på deres egen identitet, med fokus på modstandskraft, kamp og fortsatte bestræbelser på ligestilling.

Vera Skole
Denne gruppeudstilling af 13 studerende fra VERA Skole for Kunst & Design præsenterer fotografiske værker udviklet med udgangspunkt i temaet Forestillinger. Med en kombination af eksperimenterende, konceptuelle og klassiske tilgange giver udstillingen indblik i nye stemmer inden for samtidsfotografi.

Dark Gallery
The Future Is Not Neutral explores how photography shapes our visions of the future. Through the installations and works by Anne Schönharting and Thomas Suchy, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on collective futures, responsibility, and the role of images in shaping what lies ahead.

Niels Bohr Institute
A Responsibility to Awe presents Judit Prat Martí’s work, pairing images of Copenhagen with photographs from the Dark Energy Survey. Curated by Jo Verwohlt, the exhibition connects the cosmic and the everyday, inviting viewers to rediscover awe in their immediate surroundings.

Ex Nihilo
Not A Typical Persian Girl explores how ideology and politics shape womanhood in Iran. Through diverse visual expressions, Atoosa Farahmand and Oscar Hagberg portray women who challenge norms and assert their identities, highlighting resilience, resistance, and ongoing struggles for equality.

Vera Skole
This group exhibition by 13 students from VERA School of Art & Design presents photographic works developed around the theme Forestillinger. Combining experimental, conceptual, and classical approaches, the exhibition offers insight into emerging voices in contemporary art photography.
