Join us for a guided tour through our VÆKST Exhibition Park this June.
Come experience our newly transformed festival venue, VÆKST, and discover the next wave of Nordic artists through a guided tour led by the CPF curatorial team.
VÆKST is dedicated to showcasing emerging artists from the Nordic region working across photography, sound, movement, and visual art with a focus on experimentation and interdisciplinary practice. The VÆKST Exhibition Park at Refshaleøen hosts a variety of young talent, including VÆKST Creatives, FUTURES, and exhibitions by leading Nordic photography schools. The works exhibited at the park span various mediums, including photography, sculpture, movement, and more.
The VÆKST program aims to highlight new perspectives and platform a growing dialogue and exchange between emerging creatives within the Nordics.
Through this guided tour, guests have the opportunity to experience and dig deeper into the emerging Nordic talent showcased in VÆKST’s playful, experimental environment.

Join us at our VÆKST exhibition park for an engaging Walk & Talk session with this year’s selected FUTURES Nordic talents.
This event provides the opportunity to directly connect with this year’s selected artists from the FUTURES program and hear about the projects firsthand from the artist. FUTURES is a platform supporting emerging artists through professional development, networking, and collaboration with leading art institutions.
This year’s selected artists are Andreas Hopfgarten, Frida Lisa Carstensen Jersø, Marcus Gustafsson, and Maria Høy Hansen.
This guided tour led by the 2025 FUTURES Nordic talents and the CPF team will offer a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions relating to the themes of their work. Participants will gain insight from the artists about their projects and creative processes, and connect with the next generation of Nordic photographers.

Visit our VÆKST exhibition park to experience the solo exhibitions of the 2025 FUTURES Nordic Talents, including Andreas Hopfgarten, Frida Jersø, Marcus Gustafsson, and Maria Høy Hansen.
“Where there is a will…” is a project by German photographer and visual artist Andreas Hopfgarten, currently based in Reykjavik, Iceland. The project is centered around the town of Espelkamp in northern Germany, once a World War II refugee camp and later transformed into a modern settlement for displaced populations.
Through a research-based approach, Hopfgarten traces the spatiality and materiality of the town’s layered history to tell stories of the past. His images document objects, spaces, and everyday scenes, offering a visual exploration of the transformation of Espelkamp over the years. By highlighting this specific case, the project invites us to think and reflect upon how history, memory and identity shape the environments we live in today.

Visit our VÆKST exhibition park to experience the solo exhibitions of the 2025 FUTURES Nordic Talents, including Andreas Hopfgarten, Frida Jersø, Marcus Gustafsson, and Maria Høy Hansen.
Maria Høy Hansen’s Hidden Away documents the lives of those situated at the margins of society – whether voluntarily or by force. The project’s focus is on Centrul de plasament Bădiceni, one of Moldova’s last remaining ‘temporary homes’ for those living with mental and physical disabilities. Hansen provides a visual account of the everyday life of those living there and their surroundings, raising questions around the psychological and physical conditions of institutional care. By highlighting a largely unseen context, Hidden Away calls for critical reflection upon longstanding forms of systemic negligence, violence, and isolation.

Overarching theme for the 2025 festival is out!

We are very happy to announce that 10 July we open for submissions to become solo artists for the 2025 edition of Copenhagen Photo Festival. Deadline for applications is 8 September 2024.
For the 16th edition of Copenhagen Photo Festival we already have a lot of interesting and new initiatives in the pipeline, so it will for sure be a festival that sets new standards. But first things first! For now we unveil next year’s overarching theme, that we hope will inspire and intrigue lots of artists, photographers and collaborators. As something entirely new we have been inspired by a Danish word for the theme:
‘Fremkaldelse / Into the Light’
The Danish word 'Fremkaldelse' is specifically connected to the photographic process. Namely, as the moment of truth, when the image comes to light – or literally is "called forth’ – on film or paper after having lain hidden in the camera's dark house. The development process fascinates because it balances skill and chemistry with chance and loss of control, so that something new and perhaps surprising appears.
To ‘fremkalde’ means to cause something to step out of the darkness and into the light - both figuratively and concretely. You shed light on what is not immediately visible. A process that requires selection and opt-out. But also patience and persistence. Qualities that are challenged in an age that celebrates quick fixes, 15 second stories and new beginnings.
In our time, the complexity of everyday life can feel like a blow to the stomach. We are confronted daily with war, conflict and climate challenges. But the intricacies of this contemporary complexity call to be brought into the light. To be seen, scrutinized patiently, shown and told about.
With the 2025 theme 'Fremkaldelser / Into the Light', we want to call out what was hidden in order to create understanding and insight. It could be uncovering hidden stories or agendas in our society or personal (self) insight. This year's theme is a call to sharpen your gaze, shed light on your own and others' blind spots or practice simply seeing.
There is also hope in the theme. Spreading light in a dark time. One can so easily feel paralysed when darkness threatens. Light and hope are therefore essential to deal with the many challenges around us.
