In November 2024, Copenhagen Photo Festival offered its annual open talent call for lens-based artists and photographers in the Nordic region exclusively for the FUTURES platform.
The call was open to talents residing in Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland or Sweden for at least 12 months and are under the age of 40. The applicants are either formally educated in the field of photography or art, or have maintained a continuous professional practice within the last three years. Copenhagen Photo Festival’s call received 83 submissions, of which four artists have been carefully selected by the festival’s program committee consisting of the following members:
Patricia Breinholm Bertram, Curator and Head of Communications at Martin Asbæk Gallery, Stinus Duch, publisher and founder of Disko Bay Books, Søren Pagter, head of Photo Journalism at the Danish School of Media and Journalism/DMJX, and Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen, Managing Director of Copenhagen Photo Festival.
The programme committee prioritises a well-balanced selection, representing a wide spectrum of lens-based practice from documentary, conceptual performance-based photography, while highlighting diversity in all aspects, including gender, methods and a geographical spread. By joining the festival, the artists contribute perspectives and innovative approaches which enriches the scene of European emerging photography with their individual perspectives and innovative approaches.
For 2025, the selected talents include two artists based in Denmark, one in Sweden and one in Iceland.
