EVENT | SILENT AUCTION · Kagebal · Act III · Group Show

Kagebal is a photographic project and a conceptual happening that asks the question: can another charity cake table make a difference?
We live in a society where information overload about war and disasters makes many look away. Others still live in the midst of it, while we apathetically scroll on and struggle to react. But do we really feel better by shutting down because we are overwhelmed by the flow of news?
If not through the news, then through conversation. Conversation is best created in good company — and “company” literally means “with bread”. So let there be bread — or rather, cake.
The exhibition takes shape over the course of three open events, where the public can participate in the process. The process culminates with a Silent Auction of the works that have been created.
Practical information: To secure one of the 40 available frames for your work, please sign up for the list via this link. As a photographer, your time and any film costs are considered your contribution to the collection.
EXHIBITION PROGRAM
CAKE SPREAD – Friday, June 12 at 5:00 PM until the cake is eaten and the conversation ends
This participatory event/exhibition by curator Hannah Miller, pastry chef Jeppe Rønn-Landbo and a group of photographers uses a lavish cake table, inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, as a starting point for reflecting on global inequality and our relationship with distant crises.
The first act of ‘The Cake Ballet’ involves the sale of edible cakes and the documentation of the event. As the cakes are shared and eaten, they are continuously photographed and transformed into photographic works that subsequently fill the space. What begins as a shared experience develops into a contemporary vanitas on abundance, responsibility and image-making. Everyone is invited to watch as the process of immortalising the cakes and returning them to the pictorial format is carried out by photographers including Lasse Møller Jensen, Rita Blue Biza and Rosaline Lange.
FRAMING EVENT Wednesday, June 17 at 16:00–18:00
As part of the Copenhagen Photo Festival gallery crawl, photographers and visitors are invited to participate in the framing of the images from the first event.
SILENT AUCTION Thursday, June 18 at 16:00 – until the exhibition ends
The CAKE SPREAD project culminates in a silent auction.
“The Cake Table” returns in photographic form — now for visual consumption only — where guests bid on the works displayed on the walls. The audience is invited to experience the entire development of the project and how the conversation has unfolded over the three days.
The vanitas aspect of the work, as well as the social encounter, remains dynamic, shaped by the different approaches of the participating photographers.
In the full sense of the word, Kagebal unfolds as a ball over three days — from creation to transformation to preservation.
All proceeds from the sale of cakes, both edible and decorative, go directly to charity.
