NW Gallery presents Dividing by Zero, a solo exhibition with Andrej Lamut.

Slovenian artist Andrej Lamut works with analogue and experimental photography, using the medium as an expressive form that goes beyond traditional mimetic methods. His work mainly focuses on the performative act, encompassing all stages of the creative process. He explores themes of uncertainty and borderline states of consciousness.

In Dividing by Zero, Lamut creates a site-specific experience where logic dissolves. The photographs seem absurd, evoking unease, and function as pieces of a puzzle revealing a metaphysical world of phobias and intrusive thoughts. Modular walls and podiums in the space shape how the work is viewed, forcing the audience to observe the images from specific angles and preventing a full view of the entire collection at once.

The exhibition is curated by Nina Worren.

The exhibition is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.

About the artist

Andrej Lamut (b. 1991, SLO) lives and works between Gothenburg and Ljubljana.

Andrej Lamut works at the intersection of photography and material experimentation, pushing the medium beyond its conventional representational limits. His practice is rooted in the performative act, involving not only image-making but also material selection, printing techniques, and spatial presentation. Through this, he explores themes of unfamiliarity, liminal states, and the unrecognizability of objects.

Lamut’s work challenges perception and invites engagement with paradoxes and metaphysical ambiguities. His projects resist simple interpretation, often employing analogue processes, alternative printing methods, and artist books.

Lamut is currently completing his Master of Fine Arts in Photography at HDK-Valand, Gothenburg, and holds a degree in Visual Communication from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. He was part of the PARALLEL—European Photo Based Platform, through which he exhibited at FORMAT Festival (UK), Organ Vida (Croatia), and the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center (Hungary). He was shortlisted for the Emerging Photographer of the Year Award at Photo London 2022.

NW Gallery (est. 2017) is an artist-driven nonprofit curatorial platform and exhibition lab for contemporary art photography. Den slovenske kunstner Andrej Lamut arbejder med analog og eksperimentel fotografi og bruger mediet som en udtryksform, der går ud over traditionelle mimetiske metoder. Om kunstneren

Andrej Lamut (f. 1991, SLO) bor og arbejder mellem Göteborg og Ljubljana.

Andrej Lamut arbejder i krydsfeltet mellem fotografi og materialeeksperimenter og skubber mediet ud over dets konventionelle repræsentationelle grænser. Hans praksis er forankret i den performative handling, der ikke kun involverer billedskabelse, men også materialevalg, trykteknikker og rumlig præsentation. Lamut er i øjeblikket ved at færdiggøre sin kandidatgrad i fotografi på HDK-Valand, Göteborg, og har en grad i visuel kommunikation fra Kunstakademiet i Ljubljana.
