Portrait artist Rainer Hosch exhibits never-before-released photographs from his archive of pop culture luminaries in his solo exhibition One Upon a Time in Hollywood at Gallery Poulsen’s inaugural Copenhagen Photo Festival presentation.
Hosch has reconfigured these portraits into compelling grid compositions, crafting vignettes of icons in music, art, and cinema. A signature of Hosch’s style is his ring flash technique. This special light peels away the carefully crafted personas of his subjects, offering viewers an intimate glimpse into the authentic presence of the stars that make Hollywood shine.
The exhibition represents a homecoming for Hosch, whose distinctive vision has earned him a place in the permanent collection of the National Photography Museum in Copenhagen.
Hosch and his ring flash will be present at the opening Friday the 13th and Saturday 14th, turning the gallery into a pop-up photo studio where visitors can watch Hosch work his magic behind the lens.
Collectors who acquire a work from the exhibition are offered a free portrait by Hosch and an invitation to be immortalized through the same lens that has defined contemporary visual culture—provided they can appear in person at Gallery Poulsen on Friday, June 13th or Saturday, June 14th, 2025.

Portrætkunstneren Rainer Hosch udstiller ikke tidligere publicerede fotografier fra sit arkiv af popkulturens store hollywoodstjerner i sin soloudstilling Once Upon a Time in Hollywood på Galleri Poulsens udstilling i anledning af dette års Copenhagen Photo Festival.
Hosch har indsat portrætterne i fascinerende gitterkompositioner og skabt vignetter af popikoner inden for musik, kunst og film. Et kendetegn ved Hoschs stil er hans ringblitzteknik. Det specielle lys skræller den øverste fernis af de portrætteredes omhyggeligt udformede offentlige personaer og giver beskuerne et intimt og autentisk glimt ind bag stjernernes glitrende hollywoodfacader.
Hosch’s karakteristiske fotografiske vision har givet ham en plads i den permanente samling på Den Nationale Fotosamling på Det Kongelige Bibliotek i København.
Hosch og hans navnkundige ringblitz vil være til stede ved åbningen fredag den 13. juni samt lørdag den 14. juni, hvor han forvandler galleriet til et pop-up-fotostudie, hvor besøgende kan se Hosch udføre sin magi bag
linsen.
Samlere, der erhverver et værk fra udstillingen, tilbydes et gratis portræt af Hosch og en invitation til at blive udødeliggjort gennem den samme linse, der har være definerende for moderne visuel kultur – forudsat at de kan møde personligt op på Galleri Poulsen fredag den 13. juni eller lørdag den 14. juni 2025.
