Roger Ballen & Giuditta R · Familiar Constellation: Place Of the Inside Out

It is with great pleasure that Galleri Oxholm welcomes the exhibition Familiar Constellation: Place Of the Inside Out with works by the internationally renowned artist, Roger Ballen and previously exhibited mixed media artist, Giuditta R.

Familiar Constellation: Place of the Inside Out focuses through selected works by each artist on aspects of the concept of childhood and shows a personal interpretation of man’s contemporary condition. The works touch the unconscious of the individual and the community in different ways with the underlying purpose also to learn and release untapped, creative potential. Roger Ballen and Giuditta R both analyze reality with a very special poetics and a personal vision of art, so that a real world is revealed to the one who manages to look behind the surface.

For decades, Roger Ballen has used drawing as a technique in his photographic work to create unreal and original characters and make visible inner psychological scenes. In Giuditta R’s case, the art has always arisen from a practice of using photography and the raw honesty of reality as sources of inspiration to be able to create psychological ones characters and better describe and show positions and states of mind in the world that surrounds U.S.

Ballen’s and Giuditta R’s works hang in the gallery space as concrete witnesses of journeys into the dark psyche of man to a place where reality and dream mingle in a complex structure of meanings and interpretations. The artists’ gaze, from blurred memories of one childhood to stark instances of human discomfort, expresses (from different worlds and the gaze of generations) reflections on a mental and physical state and the spiritual balance in our society.

With Familiar Constellation: Place of the Inside Out, it is the artists’ desire to show authentic views and open up to new perspectives, just as they have also had one hope to create individual awareness and development across cultural stereotypes and barriers.
