EXHIBITION · Press Photo of the Year 2023

2 March - 10 August

Press Photo of the Year 2023

Reality and its people emerge through the dramatic, landmark and memorable moments from last year captured by the country’s best press photographers. Press Photo of the Year shows the selected photographs from the competition of the same name, which each year awards Danish press photographers and their best shots.

In the exhibition, you can see the winning photos as well as the nominated photos from all categories. Visit the exhibition and look back on a remarkable year in the company of the country’s most talented photographers.

Climate became the year’s big theme

The Press Photo of the Year competition as a whole almost always reflects the most important events of the previous year, although the selected images and videos represent the priority choices of the respective juries. However, this year it is a bigger theme, climate, which in a broad sense characterizes this year’s winners in the photo categories. That climate became a focus was not a conscious starting point for the judges, but that is how their choice turned out. 2023 was the wettest year ever recorded in Denmark and the warmest year on earth. We could feel this in many ways, e.g. in the form of floods. But global warming has also come on the media’s news agenda in many different forms, which of course is also reflected in the photographers’ work and thus in this year’s competition.

The competition awards photos in several categories such as news of the year, portrait of the year and sports photo of the year, as well as the main prizes press photo of the year and press photographer of the year. The winners and nominees are selected by the Press Photographers’ Association’s jury.
