Nina Sikkersoq & Jørgen Chemnitz · Celebrating 50 years: Talking Faces · Kiinnat Oqaluttuartut

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Greenlandic House at this year’s Copenhagen Photo Festival, we aim to create a unique photo exhibition to honor the many individuals who have been part of the rich history of the house. Through portraits and brief interviews, we seek to illuminate the diverse perspectives of users, staff, artists, and decision-makers who shaped and experienced the house.

Our goal is to highlight the various roles, functions, and events that constitute the Greenlandic House. The photo exhibition will serve as a tribute to all involved, conveying the diverse history of the house through visual art and text.

We will portray users, staff, board members, artist, and others who have influenced the house. Textual elements will describe each portrait, narrating stories of the experiences the house has provided.

We aim to highlight how the Greenlandic House has functioned as a cultural hub, connecting people, and fostering communities across different cultures. Our long-term objectives are for the exhibition to travel to other Greenlandic Houses in Denmark and various cities in Greenland, such as Sisimiut, Nuuk and Ilulissat.

A folder will collect all the elements from the exhibition. A small softcover folder containing the portraits and their small stories. The folder will serve a compact and easily digestible element for visitors at various exhibition venues, and specifically, will constitute a consistent presentation at the Greenlandic houses.

The Exhibition starts at The Greenlandic House and the during week after the 12 th of June will we open the exhibition at the Copenhagen City Hall at the opening there will the social mayor, Karina Vestergaard make a speech and followed by Leise Johnsen and Nina Sikkersoq. Gaz Zaa Lung will performance and open the exhibition with inuttitut drum dance.
