Become a Volunteer

The festival will adapt itself this year due to COVID-19. We are working hard to make the Copenhagen Photo Festival a safe place for both our volunteers and visitors. We will make sure to respect social distancing and government regulations to ensure the safety of everybody. We’re looking for volunteers who are as excited as we are to work flexibly.

The Copenhagen Photo Festival is a community of passionate people and we want our volunteers to feel involved and comfortable as much as possible. We will provide the necessary protective means and will regularly get in touch with the volunteers during the whole festival.

If you like photography, events and busy days in an international environment, then Copenhagen Photo Festival is the place for you! If this sounds like something you could be interested in, then join us on June 3-13 2021 in Copenhagen.

Depending on your wishes and experience, you can take on different types of tasks before and during the festival. There’s something here for everyone! Please note that volunteers are required to contribute a minimum of three (3) shifts before or during the Festival.

You must be +18 y/o to be a volunteer.

Read more about the different tasks below.

The heart of the festival is beating at Refshaleoen where the centre is the vibrant hub for all our programme activities, events and exhibitions. To create a great experience for our guests and participants and make all work well around the clock, we count on our outgoing exhibition assistants.

The team of exhibition assistants move around to guide the guests, keep an eye on the exhibitions, help the exhibitors and make sure that the place is in shape and ready every day to host our activities. If you are service-minded, at ease with big crowds and like making things happen, this is a place for you.

Info Desk/Tickets Sales

We host and welcome a big number of international and local guests, exhibitors and programme participants, and we want them to feel welcomed, well-informed and ready for their experience at the Festival Centre, both indoors and outdoors. We run two info desks/ticket-sales-points, where a small and dedicated team of volunteers will be welcoming and guiding the audience, selling tickets.

It is your responsibility to inform the visitors about the festival and its exhibitions and guide them in the right direction. If you like having responsibility and you’re an outgoing and service-minded person, we’re looking for you. Good English skills are a must, since you’ll be dealing with our international guests. Speaking Danish is a big plus.

We believe that good events create a good experience for both our guests and programme participants. We need your attitude and your smile to make our events happen during the 11 days of the festival.

The most important thing is to be service-minded and flexible. Along with your co-volunteers you will make sure that the event runs smoothly, the place is clean and tidy, and whatever help is needed at a given moment. Through volunteering for this position you will gain a lot of experience and organizing social events will feel like a piece of cake after that!

Production Assistants

Our valuable production assistants are helping with all festival preparations in the Photo Centre at Refshaleøen. We need strong and reliable people who are not afraid of lifting or other physical tasks to help build up the festival center beforehand and take it down afterwards.

If you are interested in event/venue production and want to learn what’s needed to make an 11-day international festival, this is a shift for you.

As a Super CPFVolunteer, you can take assignments that require more responsibilities and you will play a more important role in our team. You can combine at least six (6) shifts according to your availability and preferences.

You will get the chance to be an active part of the festival, gain more work experience, develop your skills and gain a recommendation letter (upon request) on top of the other rewards.

If one of these tasks sounds good to you, we can’t wait to meet and work with you!

We will come back to you and start the arrangements. The detailed planning will follow at the beginning of May.

Reach us at for more information or questions.

What is Copenhagen Photo Festival?

Copenhagen Photo Festival. The largest Nordic festival of its kind returns on June 3-30, with more than 30 exhibitions spread all over galleries, museums and art institutions in Copenhagen and southern Sweden. Copenhagen Photo Festival will be brimming with creativity, experimentation and top quality exhibitions. At our festival centre carefully selected artists turn a 10,000 m2 wasteland into an innovative exhibition park filled with the best of photography and lens-based art. The exhibition park connects the art experience with social events and open-air music supplied by DJ’s.

In June, it is all about photography seen through our three main focal points: Framing Identity, Framing Society and Framing Vision. These focal points capture the individual, society and art via exhibitions, workshops, talks and more.

Copenhagen Photo Festival focuses on development. New forms of exhibiting, new ways to use photography as well as new perspectives and emerging talents. The festival presents a programme of high quality – artistically and conceptually – building bridges between fine art and documentary photography. Copenhagen Photo Festival is for those who want to break new ground and challenge the idea of what photography is and can be, now and in the future.
