Talk by Photographer Jacob Holdt

Jacob Holdt is famous for his lectures on racism, integration, oppression and the popular slideshow "American Pictures" and in 2019 published the book "On Saying Yes", reflecting on the massive success "American Pictures" received. In this lecture, he talks about the people he has met and photographed along the way. Jacob will elaborate on the topics of saying “yes” and what it really means to be close to the people you photograph. Not just as a someone with a camera, but as a human being. The talk is in Danish.

About Jacob Holdt
Danish photographer, author and lecturer known worldwide for his book and lecture "American Images". He has since produced "Indians and Beans in Bolivia" and "Nepal's Soil". In 2009 he received the prestigious Fogtdals Fotografprisers honour award.

Ole Christiansen has travelled widely as a photographer for 42 years, shooting portraits, street photography and still life, and his visual signature is characterised by a very graphic look. Join him on a pictorial journey where he talks about his approach to photography and the passion that has driven him throughout his photographic career. The talk is in Danish.

About Ole Christiansen
Over the years, Ole Christiansen has provided images for countless books, journals, magazines, newspapers and record covers, and has also made numerous books and exhibitions. He has become famous for his covershoots for Euroman and record covers for bands such as Sort Sol, TV2, Thomas Helmig and many others.

Artist talk // Banja Rathnov: Photography and France

Talk by Gallery owner and art historian Banja Rathnov

Drawing on her passion for French humanist photography, which stems from Banja Rathnov's 22 years in Paris, she will examine the classic black and white images that helped to restore man's faith in mankind after the two world wars that destroyed so much. Surrealism, Dadaism, humanism and the human being at the centre. Well-known names like Kertesz, Brassai and Cartier-Bresson represents only a fraction of the artists from golden era in the long history of photography, and Banja will take introduce you to many other less known but equally important and fascinating artists. The talk is in Danish.

About Banja Rathnov
Graduated as an art historian from the Ecole du Louvre in Paris, subsequently employed in various galleries and auction houses and representative of Bruun Rasmussen Art Auctions in France. In 2009 she founded Galerie Banja Rathnov in Paris with a focus on Nordic photography and moved back to Denmark in 2013, where she now runs the Banja Rathnov gallery and Clausens Kunsthandel in Copenhagen.

Want to exhibit your photos and make professional prints? Sign up for this talk and gain insight into the processes and considerations behind finalizing files and printing in a quality fit for hanging in a gallery. Michael Elmkjær Madsen will show examples of how he has solved difficult challenges for clients and guide you through all the pitfalls from exposure to exhibition. The talk is in Danish.

 

After the workshop you will have a better understanding of:

• Capturing for final quality
• Colour management and display requirements
• The unique requirements when printing exhibitions or books
• Techniques for image uniformity and enlargement
• Quality checks of files before printing
• Communication with retouchers, graphic designers and print specialists
• Ways to increase the quality of your own prints

 

About Michael Elmkjær Madsen
Photographer, retoucher, Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop and part of Theilgaard Academy. As a photojournalist and commercial photographer Michael has worked for over 20 years for magazines, publishers and companies. As a retoucher he specializes in post processing and retouching of portraits and finishing of fine-art prints for museums and exhibitions. Michael has worked on all of Helga Theilgaard's exhibition and books, Klaus Holsting's exhibition "90", Kirstine Fryd's "Women Fleeing War" and numerous other publications and exhibitions.

In this talk, Søren Rønholdt will talk about his own personal path to an artistic practice as a self-taught photographer. Søren will share his experiences finding his own expression, publishing books, doing exhibitions and making a living as an artist. The talk is in Danish.

 

About Søren Rønholdt
Søren has a background in analogue photography and has worked as a professional photographer with a strong focus on portraiture. Over the past 10 years, he has established himself as an artist, has exhibited at a large number of censored exhibitions and museums, and is currently on the board of the Charlottenborg Foundation. Søren publishes the podcast ISO 600 about art photographers in Denmark and is doing workshops in photography. He is currently working on a new book.

Talks with photographer Helga Theilgaard

Get a unique insight into the artist's working process from idea to completion, focusing on Helga Theilgaard's latest major photographic projects "The Rootless - we who are left" and "I'm here now". The talk will also introduce you to methods for obtaining financial support for your project through fundraising and collaboration with foundations, businesses, and sponsors. The talk is in Danish.

In the workshop you will learn:
• The process from vision to finished work
• Artistic considerations and necessary choices
• How to realise your photographic dream
• Basic fundraising tools
• The value of cross-stakeholder collaboration

About Helga Theilgaard
Artist, photographer and head of Theilgaard Academy. Over the past 15 years, she has made numerous exhibitions of her work, most recently with the project "The Rootless –We who are left" that toured Denmark in 2022 and "I ́m here now", which was shown as a solo exhibition during the Copenhagen Photo Festival the same year. She works with dissemination in art and photography through workshops, education programmes and lectures for budding and professional photographers offered by Theilgaard Academy. Trained as a photographer at Photographer for Her Majesty the Queen Rigmor Mydtskov and a student from Denmark's Photographic School of Visual Arts Fatamorgana.
