Artist talk // Janne Klerk

Artist talk // 14:00 - 15:00

Conversation with photographer Janne Klerk in the exhibition, moderated by Anna Stensgaard

During this conversation, you can meet photographer Janne Klerk, who is the artist behind the spring exhibition at the Johannes Larsen Museum. You will have the unique opportunity to ask the artist questions as we move through the exhibition rooms.

In the exhibition “Reflections”, photographs by Janne Klerk from her project, “Reflections at the Foot of Heaven” are on display. In the photographs, we see a pond photographed close up to its natural elements, but with a broader perspective. The project is an extension of Klerk’s earlier exhibition and publication “Denmark’s Coastline”, where there was also a focus on reflections, this time along the coast. Nature as a motif can be found as well in Klerk’s photographs from other countries; after careful selection, some of them are included in this exhibition.

Cosmic metaphors in Kerteminde

In Johannes Larsen Museum in Kerteminde you can right now experience the photo exhibition Reflections by photographer Janne Klerk accompanied by texts by astrophysicist Anja C. Andersen and author Gitte Broeng. In the exhibition Klerk explores a tiny lake in the woods and creates a central metaphor for our relationship with nature, cosmos and other people.

Janne Klerk’s extensive solo exhibition in the old home of the Danish artist and nature lover Johannes Larsen spans three central series in her work and over several decades of her career. The exhibition gives a perspective to her interest and work with reflections as a varied phenomenon. The core message of Klerk’s exhibition consists of a series of photographic reflections which bring humans and the cosmos into play and bring nature right into the exhibition space.

Her project, “Reflections at the Foot of Heaven” consists of photographs taken of the water surface of the same small lake and raises a wide range of questions; about the refraction of light in water, about the ecosystem, the universe, the sun, the atmosphere and about reflections between people.

“When you’ve spotted all the parallels there are between motifs on the surface of the water and the way we humans reflect ourselves in each other, the ways we act and communicate, the water surface becomes a fascinating and rich phenomenon,” the artist says.

Hear more about Janne Klerk’s fascination and work with reflections – from the tiny lake in the woods to the big cosmos – in the video below, which also features astrophysicist Anja C. Andersens reflections on the phenomenon of reflections.

Exhibition // Janne Klerk - Spejlinger

Photographer Janne Klerk has created an exhibition about absorption, nature and the cosmos.

Janne Klerk’s depictions of the landscape of Denmark are practically classics. This time she focuses on natural phenomena that are experienced at close range, but which involve broader perspectives. Her project, “Reflections at the Foot of Heaven” consists of photographs taken of one particular pond that measures 100 m. in diameter and takes 5 minutes to walk around. The core message of the exhibition consists of a series of photographic reflections which bring humans and the cosmos into play and bring nature right into the exhibition space. A book accompanies the exhibition, by Janne Klerk, with texts by author Gitte Broeng and astrophysicist and professor Anja C. Andersen. The exhibition at the Johannes Larsen Museum  puts Janne Klerk’s newest project into meaningful relation with some of her earlier photographic projects from Denmark and other countries; it gives a perspective to her occupation with reflections as a varied phenomenon.
