Photo City

This open call is for photographers and artists who wish to contribute with an exhibition project to be exhibited at the heart of the festival, Photo City, which is located at Refshaleøen and open during the whole festival.

Your contribution must be of a whole exhibition concept (either as a solo or a group show) that matches one of our locations in Photo City.

It’s important that the project submitted  has never previously been exhibited in Denmark. Copenhagen Photo Festival categorizes its exhibitions according to three main themes: Framing Society, Framing Vision and Framing Identity. You must be able to define, which of these categories, you see your project as being part of.

  • Framing Society: Exhibitions concerned with society. Politics, ideology and culture.
  • Framing Vision: Exhibitions based on the media. Aesthetique, technique and media.
  • Framing Identity: Exhibitions where the individual is in focus. Subject, existence and identity.

Photo City is curated by Copenhagen Photo Festival’s programme committee, which consists of festival director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen, Charlotte Præstegaard Schwartz, post.doc., art historian and curator, and Søren Pagter, head of the department for photojournalism at the Danish School of Media and Jornalism and Sigrid Nygaard, photographer and photo editor at the daily newspaper Information. It is the programme committee that processes all applications.

In 2018 Copenhagen Photo Festival received 80 applications from 16 different countries, out of which 4 was selected: Sara Vighi (IT), Nils Stelte (DE), Marta Pohlmann-Kryszkiewicz (DE) and Matin Thaulow (DK).

One finalized exhibition concept that fits one of the festival’s main themes. Must include expected number of works, format and material, space needed, if AV equipment is needed, if the project has been exhibited before, and how it will be financed.
