ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Copenhagen Photo Festival is the largest photo festival in the Nordic region.
Copenhagen Photo Festival returns on June 2-12, with exhibitions spread all over galleries, museums and art institutions in Copenhagen and southern Sweden. Copenhagen Photo Festival will be brimming with creativity, experimentation and exhibitions. At our festival centre carefully selected artists turn a 10,000 m2 wasteland into an innovative exhibition park filled with the best of photography and lens-based art. The exhibition park connects the art experience with artist talks, social events and open-air music.
In June, it is all about photography seen through our three main focal points: Framing Identity, Framing Society and Framing Vision. These focal points capture the individual, society and art via exhibitions, workshops, talks and more.
THE EXHIBITION PROGRAMME
Between talented emerging photographers and international established artists, Copenhagen Photo Festival's exhibitions are reunited around three focal points: Framing Identity, Framing Society, and Framing Vision. As an innovative platform for photography and lens-based art, the festival embraces documentary and fine-art photography.
Copenhagen Photo Festival exhibitions:
- The Solo Artists Exhibition: three well-know artists exhibited on the festival exhibition park on Refshaleøen
- Futures Nordic Talents: 5 talents from the Nordic region exhibited on the exhibition park, in exclusive architecture students' installations
- The CPF Official Exhibition Partners: educational institutions, museums, galleries, presenting artworks all over Copenhagen and southern Sweden
The Solo Artists
The six solo artists at Copenhagen Photo Festival are selected as this year’s headliners of our three focal points: Framing Identity, Framing Society and Framing Vision. They are our way of opening up windows to other worlds and serve the purpose of showcasing photography across genres, by focusing on the individual, society and art.
Out of more than 350 projects, and thereof 12 shortlisted, the three chosen artists stand as the epitome of each category.
The artists headlining this year's festival are:
Hien Hoang, Alexandra Rose Howland and Krista Svalbonas

The CPF Official Exhibition Partners
The CPF Official Exhibition Partners Programme is for institutions, photographers and visual artists who have their own space available for exhibiting.
In 2022, our Exhibition Park will be located at Refshaleøen, while the broader Official Programme will span most of Copenhagen and Southern Sweden. Our Official Programme Partners further enrich the festival by presenting the many facets of photography to both connoisseurs and the general public.
What people say
”Copenhagen Photo Festival underlines from its very first year, just how relevant the unbending photo art can be. And thus also why the festival should be an annual event on the Danish art scene.”
Matthias Hvass Borello, kunsten.nu. 2010.
“The festival celebrates photography throughout the city with a program that takes the interaction of contemporary art, everyday photography and urban space to a higher level.”
Camera Obscura Online Photography Magazine, 2011
“The experience of attending the Copenhagen Photo Festival was very productive. I saw great art exhibitions, met interesting artists and heard world-class scholarly lectures at the symposium. One of the best festivals I have attended.”
Karen Irvine, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago. 2017.
