In this video Kiêns mom tells how she protected herself from getting hit by the American planes. She explains that she covered her body behind her grandparents banana trees for not getting hit by the bombs. The video is a part of Kiên’s project ‘Where is home? Disappearing the past’, which consists of his personal story about leaving Vietnam with his parents at the age of 5 and travelling to the former German Democratic Republic during the US American war in Vietnam. The project is a study of history, cultural change, and diaspora. Being the Vietnamese in Germany and the German in Vietnam, the exhibition originates from Kiên’s personal search for his Vietnamese identity in his mother country.
