Copenhagen Photo Festival har forlænget ansøgningsfristen til Open Call 2027. Fotografer og billedkunstnere kan nu indsende visuelle projekter frem til 15. september 2026.
CPFs Open Call 2027 inviterer fotografer og billedkunstnere fra hele verden til at indsende projekter inden for fotografi og kamerabaseret kunst. Årets tema er Frie hænder | Free Hands.
Ti projekter udvælges til præsentation og en featureartikel på tværs af festivalens platforme. Heraf udvælges 3-5 projekter til en soloudstilling på Copenhagen Photo Festival 2027, som udvikles og kurateres i tæt samarbejde med festivalteamet.
De udvalgte fotografer modtager kunstnerhonorar, kuratorisk sparring og målrettet PR i forbindelse med udviklingen og præsentationen af deres udstilling.
Den forlængede frist giver både nye ansøgere og dem, der allerede arbejder på en ansøgning, ekstra mulighed for at færdiggøre og finpudse deres projekt.

Copenhagen Photo Festival has extended the application deadline for Open Call 2027. Photographers and visual artists can now submit their projects until 15 September 2026.
The open call is open to photographers and visual artists worldwide working with photography and lens-based art. The theme for the 2027 edition is Frie hænder | Free Hands.
Ten projects will be selected for features across the festival’s platforms. Of these, 3–5 will be selected for solo exhibitions at Copenhagen Photo Festival 2027.
The selected solo artists will receive an artist fee, curatorial support and targeted PR in connection with the presentation and development of their exhibitions.
The extended deadline gives both new applicants and those already working on an application additional time to complete and submit their material.

Get to know the FUTURES Nordic Talents of 2026
Copenhagen Photo Festival is excited to introduce this year’s FUTURES Nordic Talents. Four young artists with distinct and unique approaches to photography. Their work spans across fine art and documentary photography, representing a new generation within the Nordic region.
Every year through our open call the festival’s programme committee selects young artists, who reflect the diversity of photography in their own personal way. As part of the FUTURES Photography platform, these artists will gain access to professional development opportunities, networking, and mentorship within an international photography community. Their project will be exhibited as part of this year’s festival at our venue in Rafshaleøen.
This year’s Talents
For 2026, the CPF programme committee has selected four artists, two from Denmark, one from Finland, and one from Iceland, for their strong and individual works.

Liv Latricia Habel (DK) – Belonging
In 2017, Liv Latricia Habel met her family in Philadelphia, USA, for the first time. By combining archival family photographs from her African American heritage with still and moving images from her life in Denmark and Germany, she explores the gap between her sense of self and her cultural and biological roots.

Mari Mäntynen (FI) – Stranger
By participating in her own images with strangers on a first encounter with them, Mäntynen urges us to question the unspoken rules and preconceptions around meeting people, and the effects these have on our interactions with one another. The images are a collaboration between artist and subject, inviting conversations with her subjects and her viewers on how we can challenge social norms and alter our reality.

Loulou Buxbom (DK) – Too stupid to die on a Wednesday
An ongoing, intimate portrait of Buxbom’s mother and her three siblings in Denmark and Cuba, exploring their differences in adult life and the inherited characteristics and generational influences which unite them. Her investigation takes form in two honest, raw documentary films depicting family dynamics and personal insights into the daily struggles of her relatives, with a third installment in the works.

María Kristín Antonsdóttir (ISL) – Family Album
Through collaging and manipulating family photographs and home videos, Antonsdóttir explores themes of attachment and origins. Family Album is a deeply personal, process-driven project that looks at how images shape our understanding of who we are and where we come from. Through this process, she both holds on to and challenges these narratives, revealing how we actively construct and reshape our own realities. Read more

Are you interested in experiencing the behind the scenes of the biggest photography festival in the Nordic countries? Join the Copenhagen Photo Festival team as a volunteer and become part of a vibrant and creative community.
Who are we looking for?
Every year, we welcome volunteers from different backgrounds who help bring the festival to life.
Volunteers play a very important part when it comes to creating a unique and memorable festival experience. Therefore we are looking for motivated volunteers who want to join a creative, community-minded and international group, who share an interest in art and photography.
Explore different roles
Depending on your wishes and experiences we offer different tasks before, during and after the festival.
You can choose to interact directly with visitors by welcoming guests, selling tickets, working in the bar team, or selling merchandise.
If you are more into hands-on tasks, you can support the festival team by setting up exhibition spaces and assisting with installations at our main venues, the Royal Danish Theatre and VÆKST at Refshaleøen.
We also offer tasks to help document the festival by taking photos during the festival days, workshops and different events.

In return for your help, all volunteers receive a festival ticket for all opening days of the festival, so you can experience the CPF on your free days. We also make sure that all volunteers are provided with free food and water during every shift.

Highlight Announcement 2026: Carolyn Drake
It is with great excitement that Copenhagen Photo Festival announces acclaimed American artist and Magnum photographer Carolyn Drake as the exhibition highlight at the Royal Danish Theater in the centre of Copenhagen from 11 to 17 June 2026. It will be the first time that a Nordic audience can experience the award-winning artist with an extensive solo exhibition.
Older men lay nude on sofas posed like the sex workers photographed by EJ Bellocq, women in a rural Mississippi town disguise themselves mischievously behind flower arrangements and death masks, the artist herself is seen enacting absurd interpretations of a beauty and charm guide for women in the 1940’s. The photographic work of artist Carolyn Drake playfully brings forward important discussions around gender, culture, and identity, bringing new color to the grey zone between documentary and conceptual photography. Her work is ignited by wonder with tints of anger and empathy.
Playing with gender rules and identity standards
Carolyn Drake endeavors to understand the inner workings and ‘rules’ of gender and cultural identity, enriches us with new perspectives on these deeply embedded patterns, and leaves us speculating about their influence on culture and identity. The result is often surprising, intriguing and with stints of humorous self-reflection.
The work of Carolyn Drake perfectly intersect with this year’s theme ‘Forestillinger | Scenarios’. With images that twist and spin preconceived notions about gender in our society and culture on the head – from the historical concepts of femininity in the 1940s to confronting us with reframings of male nudity – she evokes a new sense of sensitivity to established cultural frameworks. We look forward to presenting Drake’s performative works with The Royal Danish Theatre’s foyer as the perfect playful backdrop. – CPF Managing Director Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen.
The exhibition at the Royal Danish Theatre in June will feature works from Drake’s most recent and prize winning oeuvre based on collaborative practices and self portraiture, specifically her projects Knit Club (2012-2020), Men Untitled (2020-2023) and Glorify Yourself (2020-2023).
Subverting power dynamics through collaboration and role reversals
In her early career, Drake often worked with communities and people on the margins of power, including Uyghurs in western China and young women sequestered in an ex-Soviet orphanage. Over time, her photographic projects have paid increasing attention to the power dynamics inherent in human relationships, including those formed through documentary practices. She draws attention to and tries to subvert these dynamics through collaboration, performance, role reversals, and creative play.
Award winning Magnum photographer
Carolyn Drake has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work. Since 2019 she has been part of the renowned photographic community, Magnum Photos. She is a Guggenheim Fellow, was awarded with a Fulbright Fellowship in connection with her work in Ukraine and winner of The Lange Taylor Prize. She had major solo exhibitions at the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation in Paris, SFMOMA in San Francisco and at Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, who also represents her. ‘Knit Club’ was Paris Photo Aperture Book of the Year finalist in 2020. She has a degree in media culture and history from Brown University.
Knit Club (2012-2020)
Knit Club’ is a collaborative project that imaginatively explores the lives of a group of women living in Mississippi who are united by manual work, motherhood, and friendship. The project portrays a lively yet not fully knowable community that manages to exist beyond the gaze or control of men.
Glorify Yourself (2020-)
With this project Drake looks at her own relationship to misogyny. By using a beauty and charm guide that proliferated widely in the US during the 1940s and 50s, she interferes with gender-codes by employing humor, conflating past and present, and distorting scale.
Men Untitled (2020-2023)
In this project Drake places men in front of the camera, vulnerable and naked. She faces the strangely ‘dangerous’ act of looking at men, observing how the male body is not a subject that dominant western culture has encouraged its audiences to scrutinize the way it does women’s bodies.

Announcement: Solo Artists and Selectees 2026
Copenhagen Photo Festival is thrilled to announce the 10 artists carefully selected from 1019 applications to be presented with a solo or digital exhibition at Copenhagen Photo Festival 2026. In the evaluation process, the quality of the applications has this time been exceptionally high, making the jury process more challenging than usual, director of the festival, Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen says.
In the selection process finding next year's headliners the programme committee has keenly focused on consistency in the connection between concept and content of the individual projects, diversity in approach as well as coherence with the theme, ‘Forestillinger | Scenarios’ and how the projects engage and interact with the curatorial context.
"The final 10 selected projects stand out for their eyeopening, thought provoking and innovative approaches, fresh perspectives, and consistent visual storytelling – enriching the next year’s festival and the theme with new and diverse perspectives," Maja Dyrehauge points out.
Forestillinger / Scenarios doming to life
The 2026 lineup of headliners selected through the open call this summer all engage with the theme Forestillinger / Scenarios in profound ways. They invite you to reflect on imagination, narrative, and the ways we stage reality. They explore how scenarios — imagined, real, or somewhere in between — shape our perception, emotions, and understanding of the world (read more about the theme).
The selected projects explore a mix of themes — from personal and collective memory, identity, to society, technology, and imagined futures. While many artists work with classic photographic approaches, others experiment with AI, archival imagery, staged scenes and speculative storytelling.
Together, these projects unfold across time, space, and experience and bring new Scenarios to life. They ask us to engage with our complex world, question predefined assumptions, and imagine new futures and pasts.

Photo Print Market at the Royal Danish Theatre - June 13
For the first time ever, the Copenhagen Photo Festival presents a Photo Print Market during the festival itself — and in truly grand surroundings. On Thursday 13 June, we invite photography lovers, collectors, and curious visitors to explore a vibrant marketplace set in the foyer of the Royal Danish Theatre, right on Kongens Nytorv.
The market builds on our popular biannual print events at Absalon in Vesterbro — but this special edition marks a new chapter, offering audiences the chance to discover and buy photographic artworks as part of the festival’s official programme.
Throughout the day, the theatre’s main foyer will be filled with photography stalls showcasing a rich selection of art and documentary prints by both established and emerging voices from across Europe and the Nordic region — including artists like Nancy Munford, Anne-Mette Kelter, and Ole Christiansen.
The market offers a unique opportunity to discover new work, connect with photographers in person, and hear the stories behind the images. Several participants are travelling to Copenhagen specifically to take part in this one-day event.

Bubbles on the Balcony – a special festival experience at The Royal Danish Theatre
Kick off your weekend with a unique experience when Copenhagen Photo Festival invites you to Bubbles on the Balcony at The Royal Danish Theatre.
On Friday and Saturday during the festival’s opening weekend (13 and 14 June), the theatre’s balcony foyer opens exclusively for a special hour of champagne, photography, and a rarely seen view over Kongens Nytorv. At 6 PM, the bubbles are served on the balcony, where you and your friends or family can enjoy a bottle of crémant – right in the heart of the festival and surrounded by works by Martin Parr, which can be experienced both on the balcony and seen from the balcony on the square below.
Bubbles on the Balcony is the perfect way to round off a day full of photographic inspiration – or a stop before heading out into the exhibitions (they are open until 8 pm at the royal theatre) or an evening in the city. On Friday, you can explore the Photo Print Market, and on Saturday the Photobook Market – both held in the theatre’s main foyer and entrance hall. Afterwards, you and your friends can head upstairs, enjoy a bottle, and let the day’s impressions settle with a glass in hand.

Bobler på Balkonen – en eksklusiv festivaloplevelse med udsigt
Kickstart weekenden med en unik oplevelse, når Copenhagen Photo Festival inviterer til Bobler på Balkonen på Det Kongelige Teater.
Fredag og lørdag i festivalens åbningsweekend (13. og 14. juni) åbnes teatrets balkonfoyer eksklusivt for en særlig time med champagne, fotografi og et sjældent vue ud over Kongens Nytorv. Kl. 18 serveres boblerne på balkonen, hvor du og dine nærmeste kan nyde en flaske cremant i ro og mag – midt i festivalens hjerte, omgivet af Martin Parrs fotografier, som både kan opleves på balkonen og ses på pladsen nedenfor.
Bobler på Balkonen er også oplagt som afrunding på en dag fyldt med fotooplevelser – eller som en pause før aftenen fortsætter. Fredag kan du gå på opdagelse på festivalens fotomarked, og lørdag byder vi på et spændende fotobogmarked – begge dele i Det Kongelige Teaters forsal og foyer ved hovedindgangen. Celebrating photography books
Come celebrate and explore amazing photo book at this year’s photo book market and the adjacent Photo Scene in our new Festival Center at the Royal Danish Theatre on the first weekend of the festival – 14th and 15th of June. Over two days we look forward to presenting a host of passionate photo book publishers, vintage photo book dealers and photo book artist – all brining their distinct perspectives and takes on the medium of the photo book.
In photography, there is a long-standing tradition of presenting work not only in glass and frame, but also in book form. In this format, photographic narratives gain a unique tactile quality – as if the stories come to life right in your hands.
Engaging conversations about photo books and photography
This market brings together photography enthusiasts, book lovers, and curious minds to experience and purchase photo books from passionate Danish publishers.
We are pleased to present a series of dialogue-based formats involving publishers, artists, bookshop owners, and representatives from photography schools. These conversations will be part of our PHOTO SCENE and aim to explore their diverse expertise and critically engage with the photo book as a unique and evolving form of artistic expression.

FREMKALDT! Ny samtalerække på Det Kongelige Teater

Copenhagen Photo Festival inviterer for første gang til FREMKALDT, en ny samtalerække under Copenhagen Photo Festival, hvor en stribe kendte danske fotografer møder en kunstner fra en anden sfære af kulturlivet til en samtale om fotografi, kunst og livet som kunstner og menneske i vores tid.
Med samtalen som ‘fremkaldervæske’ bringer festivalen en fotograf og en kunstner sammen til en aften, der giver nye perspektiver på kreativitet, kunst og fotografi. De inviterede fotografer er Marie Hald, Søren Solkær og Petra Kleis, der over tre aftener taler med billedkunstnerne Firoozeh Bazrafkan, Kasper Eistrup og Noah Umur Kanber om kunst, fotografi, inspiration og livet som menneske og kunstner lige nu (læs mere nedenfor).
Publikum kan se frem til en stribe uformelle samtaler med drinks og samtale i intime rammer i Balkonfoyeren på Det Kongelige Teater. Før og efter ‘Fremkaldt’ kan man gå på opdagelse i festivalens hovedudstillinger på Det Kongelige Teater, der blandt andet byder på udstillingen af værker med den britiske Magnum-fotograf Martin Parr.

‘Fremkaldt’ er en ny samtalerække under Copenhagen Photo Festival, hvor en stribe kendte danske fotografer møder en kunstner fra en anden sfære af kulturlivet til en samtale, hvor de udforsker snitfladerne mellem fotografi og andre kunstpraksisser, vender begreber som inspiration, metode, livet som kunstner, samt hvordan deres kunst knytter an til vores samtid.
Samtalen vil være modereret og foregår på dansk. Billetten giver også adgang til at besøge alle udstillingerne i festivalcentrum.

Den første udgave af ‘Fremkaldt’ byder på en samtale mellem fotograf Marie Hald og billedkunstner Firoozeh Bazrafkan, der begge benytter kunsten politisk til at styrke de uhørte stemmer og kaste lys over væsentlige samfundsproblematikker.
Den prisvindende fotograf Marie Hald (f. 1987) har gennem sit fotografiske arbejde sat fokus på kvindekrop, sexualitet og køn. Hun har haft flere soloudstillinger i Norden, senest Marie Hald – Exposed på Det Nationalhistoriske Museum i Danmark i 2023. Samme år udgav hun også bogen FEMININ. Hun er blevet fremhævet som et af seks nye talenter på verdensplan af World Press Photo Foundation.
Den iranskfødte billedkunstner Firoozeh Bazrafkan (f. 1982) har markeret sig som en markant fortaler for kunstnerisk ytringsfrihed. Især er hun blevet kendt for sit værk Women, Life, Freedom i 2023, hvor hun rev koranen på et rivejern foran Irans ambassade i Danmark. I 2025 modtog hun Fonsmark-prisen for sin kamp for ytringsfriheden og mod koranloven.

Denne aften kan du møde fotograf Søren Solkær og billedkunstner og musiker Kasper Eistrup. Solkær og Eistrup har begge på forskellig vis markeret sig stærkt på musik- og kunstscenen for sidenhen at skifte kunstnerisk spor.
Den prisvindende fotograf Søren Solkær (f. 1969) blev internationalt kendt for sine toneangivende portrætter af kunstnere såsom Amy Winehouse, Paul McCartney, David Lynch og Patti Smith. Han har de senere år fundet tilbage til sin barndoms landskab i Sønderjyllands marskland for at fotografere stærefænomenet ‘sort sol’. De smukke formationer kan bl.a. opleves i bøgerne Black Sun og Starling. Solkær har udstillet over hele verden – fra Kyoto til Sydney og New York – og hans værker indgår i dag i bl.a. Den Nationale Fotosamling.
Billedkunstneren og musikeren Kasper Eistrup (f. 1973) brød igennem som forsanger for rockbandet Kashmir i begyndelsen af 1990’erne. I dag arbejder han som billedkunstner, hvor han integrerer maleri og tegning samt installationskunst. Hans billedkunst har vundet stor anerkendelse, ikke mindst efter han i 2018 blev inviteret til at male et portræt af H.K.H. Kronprins Frederik af Danmark (nu H.M. Kong Frederik X). I 2025 har han været aktuel i DRs Kunstnerkolonien og deltaget i gruppeudstillingen Kunstnerkolonien på Nivaagaards Malerisamling.

Til den sidste udgave af ‘Fremkaldt’ kan du møde fotograf Petra Kleis og billedkunstner Noah Umur Kanber, der begge undersøger identitet og iscenesættelse på legende og performative måder – men med vidt forskellige tilgange.
Portrætfotografen Petra Kleis (f. 1983) fremkalder mennesket med sit kamera. Hendes særlige blik og evne til at få de portrætterede til at sænke paraderne har gjort hende til en af Danmarks mest efterspurgte portrætfotografer. Hun har skudt portrætter af alt fra Tobias Rahim til Dronning Margrethe. I 2022 udgav hun bogen Portraits, og hun åbnede soloudstillingen Petra Kleis på det Nationalhistorisk Museum i 2023.
Billedkunstneren Noah Umur Kanber (f. 1991) er for nylig blevet landskendt for sin kunst og deltagelse i DR formatet Kunstnerkolonien. Kanber er transkvinde og studerende på Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi og er udråbt som et af dansk kunst nye store håb. Deres kunst bevæger sig i krydsfeltet mellem det personlige og det universelle. Kanbers kunst har man senest kunne opleve på gruppeudstillingen Kunstnerkolonien på Nivaagaard Malerisamling (2025).

Copenhagen Photo Festival is thrilled to offer the unique opportunity to take part in an exclusive masterclass with Martin Parr on the 13 June at this year’s festival. Step into the world of legendary photographer Martin Parr in this unique and exclusive six hour Masterclass. Engage in insightful discussions, receive direct feedback and exchange ideas with one of the most renowned photographers of our time, and your fellow attendees.
What to expect
The masterclass is a rare chance to get insight into Martin Parr’s personal approach to his craft and longstanding career up close. During the class, each attendee will present their portfolio and receive direct feedback from Martin Parr as well as take part in valuable round table discussions with the other participants.
Attendees are obliged to bring a portfolio with 10-20 photographs from their most recent projects.
How to participate
To apply for this masterclass you have to sign up via the link no later than 1 April 2025. You will have to upload a PDF containing your CV and a selection of images from your most recent projects. Martin Parr will select the masterclass’ attendees personally. If you have been chosen, you will be contacted directly via email with a request for payment.

About Martin Parr
British photographer Martin Parr has revolutionized documentary photography and is one of the most celebrated, award-winning, and published photographers in the world. During his more than 50-year-long career he has been the president of Magnum Photos, published more than 120 photo books, and been exhibited worldwide. In 2025 the festival will show highlights from the photographer's extensive career and dive into his comprehensive work on leisure, tourism, and beach life.
