From USA road trip to anthropological testimonial
Among other things in Understationen you will be able to experience the moving and vibrating portraits of the USA road trip by the German photographer Mario Wezel. In the room next door the works of the Danish visual anthropologist and photographer Christian Vium will be presented in collaboration with the magazine “The Exposed” – together they create a different exhibition experience, where sound, image, archive material and video interact. Vium’s project “Revelations” will be given world premiere at the festival, and starting from the Amazon in Brazil it explores the western representations of “the other” across time and cultures. Outside Understationen the 25th anniversary of the education of photo journalism will be marked by four personal projects showing the span of the education. The works are located in a container city and have been selected by head of the department and senior lecturer of the education of photo journalism at The Danish School of Media and Journalism Søren Pagter and Mads Greve respectively.
The Censored Exhibition
In keeping with tradition, The Censored Exhibition will also be a part of Photo City. The exhibition consists of photographs selected from an open call. The photographs are selected by an external jury, which this year consists of Torben Sangild, researcher and art critic, Tina Enghoff, photographer and video artist and Beate Cegielska, curator and leader of Gallery Image. This year the festival has received applications from 242 photographers from 30 countries.
The final selection will consist of about 70 works. On one of the last days of the exhibition a selected number of the works will be sold by auction at a special event in collaboration with Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers. Everyone can participate in the auction.
Programme, seminar and communication
Besides the exhibitions in Photo City, Copenhagen Photo Festival 2017 will offer many other experiences related to photography at exhibition sites all over the city. Simultaneously a packed programme consisting of guided tours, talks, panel discussions, Insta-Walks, workshops and debates will take place in both Photo City and around the city. On the basis of last year’s success the festival once again arranges a full day seminar with international and Danish researchers, experts and photographers. This seminar will take place at The Royal Library – The National Museum of Photography.
Another new and ambitious initiative from last year’s festival will be repeated when “Look & Listen” once again adds an extra dimension to the visitors’ experiences of a number of the exhibited photographs. By scanning the works by using an app the visitors will be able to listen to or look at the artists telling about their works.
